If the wood grain in your unit is such as mine, I would use mahogany plywood to best match the grain pattern.

Randy,

The pine might stain up to match the cherry cabinets pretty well. But take a look at the grain of both. If the pine isn't close, check out some of the specialty plywoods at Home Depot or Lowes. They sell it in 2'x4' sections which should give you enough material with little wastage. And they have it in 3/4" thickness which should work well for the trailer steps. Birch in particular has a pretty neutral appearing grain that can be stained to match a wide variety of other woods.

The other thing you might look at is real stair treads They're 1 1/16" thick and come in a variety of sizes and woods. Home improvement centers carry them and you may find a real bargain on a clearance rack or a scratch, dent, and ding sale.

The same project is on my horizon this season. I'm leaning toward finished wood like you instead of carpeting. But I am concerned about the slippery factor. Any thoughts on that?

Steve,
A stair runner cut to fit would look nice. You would still be able to see the beauty of the finished wood on the edges, while protecting the tread and preventing an accidental slip. It could also add some contrast to the project.

Steve,
FWIW - we used 3/4" oak sanded to 150 grit, stained with two applications of MinWax 'gunstock' then two coats of satin polyurethane sanded to 220 grit between coats. The steps are not slippery. Don't know how the finish will hold up, but, shouldn't be too hard to touch up the poly.

ID:	2840 ok I have attached the plywood(3/4) that I had at home. Wife still wants finished steps, oak is $49 a step tread. Pine is $11 a step tread. Then cut and finished with stain. I used this 3/4 plywood that had s a stained finish just so I can use the steps. I am still trying to convince her carpet of which I have one piece left over, we'll see!

Was on the main Keystone website. the 2013&1/2 327RES must be out and they made some changes. you can see them on the 360degree view on the main keystone website.
first is the new taller cabinet in front of the slide queen bed along with a new taller exit window closer to the front of the camper.
ALSO folks they added the second step up from the main floor by the door into bedroom/bathroom area. I have done this mod to mine along with several others. Nice but the pictures are hard to see what they did or how far it comes into the main floor by the door. The new cabinet looks nice as it is taller with more drawers and double doors. Changed the "J" couch too! more of an 90degree couch.
good figure, we make the mod and they change the design of the camper? you are

Gosh I love the look of great woodwork! Great job, very good looking, matches the wood color, and so much nicer than the stock step. I have a bad hip and will likely do this mod as soon as I find "our" 316RL. Thanks for posting!
