Hey everyone! I just bought a 2004 Keystone Cabana 1701. My first real trailer! I moved up from a little coleman pop up camper so im excited to get camping in the new trailer. I pull my trailer with a 2020 Ford Ranger XL Supercab with the tow package. I have been camping for as long as I can remember, my family has always had campers so it was natural I got my own.

As someone who is now actually pulling some real weight behind my truck I need some advice. My old trailer weight was like 1400 pounds and now the Cabana is like 2880 pounds dry. My truck can tow 7,500 maximum so I am not concerned about the weight. But my question is do you guys recommend a weight distribution and sway bars? Im just using an adjustable hitch at the moment that is rated for 5,000 pounds and 500 pound tongue weight. I have it at like 7-1/4 drop at the moment and the trailer sits perfectly level when towing on the road.

I know it was alot to read but any advice would be appreciated thank you!!

Welcome to the forum

Congrats on your upgrade. I would use WD and sway, it seems like the smaller and single axle trailers are even more susceptible to sway and bouncing. There are tons of choices, and in a variety of price ranges.

Trunnion styles will have sway control built in, bar and chain will require an added sway control. Your choice, they will all do the job set up properly.

Hello Brandon, and welcome!

As Chuckster stated, there are several brands and styles of weight distributing systems. When we had our TT, we used a Equalizer brand with a sway control. It worked well for us.

Enjoy your travels and stay safe!
