Bumper mount bike rack

Almost lost the bumper and bikes-
4 bikes on rack bolted to rear bumper- rack ratchet strapped back to frame on each side to help the bouncing-
After first stop noticed 2 of 4 straps broke and bumper ripping at brackets-
Put bikes inside 5th wheel for trip

I have the rear slide out tray on our keystone cougar but not the bike bar-

I think I need to look into getting a front mount made for the hitch/neck

The rear "bumper" is intended to hold a sewer hose. Many have reporting the rear bumper breaking with the weight of a bicycle bouncing on it as it has little strength. Best to put those bikes in your pickup bed or mounted to the front A on your camper.

Well exactly what I did! A couple pieces of angle iron and a receiver tube and I had the mount.

Russell, That last pic of the bikes on the rack isn't easy to figure out with the dark background. At first it looked like the far rail on your bed was a long platform that came right up to the back of you cab. Perhaps if you have another view without the dark background to the mount it would help but that set up looks a lot better than the bikes hung on a rear bumper.

Awesome pictures- thanks for the guidance!

I had the bikes strapped “back towards the rv to “help” with the bounce but the broken straps tell all-

Glad I caught it before the bikes and bumper were dragging behind us

I thought long and hard about that system you have and liked how it looked. It looks safe and practical. Then came to the decision I would have to have it fabricated by a welder and then install and paint it. I don't have the means for that.

I went with the following link. It was $125 CDN ( I used amazon not etrailer), was delivered quick. It was a breeze to put on and anyone with a torque wrench can do it.
https://www.etrailer.com/p-C31015.ht...el=Sierra+2500

I used the Curt because the Draw-Tite sat a little higher and didn't feel like removing the licence plate and cutting a whole in the plastic for it to protrude from.

I have used it quite a few times now locally and once on a trip. Easy to load, easy to disassemble.

We need to point the next person who talks about mounting/carrying XYZ on the pull out bumper back to this thread.
We (most on this forum) have read or seen to many failures and we still get the push back answers that it has not happened to them, so it must be okay attitude.

I use my tray only when stationary if I need to keep the generators off the ground. Cant remember but 200# sounds like the max weight. Not a fan of it and with my trailer being 35' + adding another 2' bouncing around back there is not a good idea JMHO

I just checked mine and it says 200 lb limit. It works great to set a large cooler on while at the camp site instead of the ground.

Well I have looked and her are a couple more of the setup. The bike rack is a Swagman X2. I chuckle a bit as it has a tag on it that states not for RV use. No way would I use this unit on the back of the 5er, but on the pin box it rides so smooth.

Our rig is long enough without adding another two to three feet out front.
