Husky Mudflaps

I have posted in another thread about some problems with rock dings with my new tires. I am looking to put some kind of mud flaps on the truck to stop it.

My neighbor here showed me some flaps made by Husky that fit over the receiver enabling you to remove them if not towing - which I want to do. Has anyone ever used these and if so what are your thoughts? He said he was going to order them but hasn't yet so I may be the guinea pig....

I’ve heard of them but have not seen them on a truck.

I took the advice of people on this forum and went with the Rock Tamers. Cost about $250 or so, but look good and do the job exceptionally well.

Jim, are they permanently attached? I'm not worried about the cost but need something that's not there permanently. When we hit our "spots" in the mountains fixed mudflaps will not be there when I get back home.

How are these attached?

Edit: I've looked at the website and it appears these are permanently attached which I don't really want.

Here is a picture of the Rock Tamers. They are flexible heavy rubber mud flaps and can bend. I back these over curbs and embankments. Since they are receiver mounted, the are easily removable in a few minutes. If you are hitched, it is possible to remove the horizontal rods with an allen key.

Yes, these look very much like the Husky flaps. Thanks.

One thing to consider if you are undecided between the Rock Tamer or the Husky hitch mount solution, it looks like it is necessary to order either a SRW or DRW version of the Husky while the same Rock Tamer kit may be used for either application or switched back and forth as long as the correct kit is purchased for the receiver size.

I have similar on my truck, don't see how you could ever rip one off going over terrain as they are attached up toward the top of them. most of the ones I've seen for a 2500 though I believe are a rigid type with no movement so I could see how those could get torn off.

I couldn't find any mud flaps that would fit my duramax. I made from reinforced rubber I got from local hardware store. I'll call roadglide mud flaps. Looking at the picture the flaps are 3 inches wider then the ome flaps . I put wider heavier index tires on .

As you can see I have both the duraflap and rock tamers. The duraflaps are more for daily driving

My truck has some OEM Ford mudflaps that will stop most of the crud. This year we were 'lucky' enough to follow a highway line painter that was dumping puddles of paint which of course made a mess. For next year I'll make up a flap arrangement using a semi flap cut in half, a piece of angle iron or square tube that I have and a plug, either commercial or from my odds and ends pile for the receiver. If you have a welder, you can make up something similar for less then 25 bucks.

A siderail from an old bed (2" angle iron),
a hacksaw (to cut off the end fittings),
a 2.5" U-bolt (to attach it to the receiver tube),
six 3/8" bolts with some fender washers (to attach the mudflaps to the angle iron) and
a "mudflap" from Tractor Supply (cut in half and then "customized to fit the truck) will go together nicely.

Easy to put on the receiver tube, easy to take off and stops anything that gets thrown onto the flaps. A can of black spray paint if you're really picky, but after a couple of miles, nobody can see the color anyway.....

Rock Tamers

Some folks are using the Rock Tamer mud flaps. I like the adjustability of them from what I see. Is anyone using these on a WDH? Particularly an Equalizer?

The shank that goes into the receiver tube has an angled steel support underneath the square shank that extends to within an inch or so of the front of the receiver tube. The Husky flaps have a notch cut into the bottom of the fitting that goes over the ball mount shank that looks like it will let the angled support slide through it so I can get clearance from the bumper. I don't see that ability on the Rock Tamers - has anyone had any experience with that?? Thanks.
