TV mount on exterior

I am getting ready to mount a plate for a removable flat screen TV mount on the outside of my Fuzion. I highly doubt it will be over a stud, so lets assume just the fiberglass shell is all that I will be tieing into. I was thinking about putting some silicone or 3m adhesive tape on the back to help. What kind of screws would fit the order? The TV weighs less than 15 lbs. Thanks!

There will be a thin "plywood" layer under the filon. Use some SikaFlex and it will stay put. SikaFlex is a sealant/adhesive. We use it for slide topper brackets. You can use hex head wood screws just be careful about the length, don't want to go through interior wall.

Just a thought instead of through the outside, how about putting a mount just inside the front compartment opening...that's where the factory put one on my Raptor.
Its just inside on the right...I guess one of my tvs with arm is suppose to come from inside and fit the slide in mount at that location...possibility??

I had the TV sitting around and the mount was pretty cheap. I do have a cable hookup in the front compartment that I plan to tie into.

I don't think I'd mount a "conventional, indoor TV mount" on the outside wall of my RV. First problem I can see would be rust/corrosion that may cause the mount to be rendered unserviceable by the moisture and once it starts rusting, would likely stain the exterior FILON. Second would be the mount catching dirt, bugs, etc during travel, making installing and removing the TV difficult. Cleaning the mount and its locking mechanism would probably be a hassle.

If I were going to install a TV mount to the exterior wall, I'd want to find one that's constructed and designed for that purpose, not "a cheap one I picked up on sale that fits an old TV I had at home".... There's nothing wrong with the mount, nothing wrong with the TV, but the application, well that may not turn out to be the best or most reliable use of the products.

I think I'd look at possible mounting surfaces inside the front storage compartment rather than leaving it exposed to the elements on the outside of the RV.

Do you plan on moving the TV from an inside mount to an outside mount? If not, go with some type of outside table. I store a TV below the master bed and put it on a Coleman table outside. Here's the link:

Got it done. so far so good. The mount is small. If this doesn't work out, they make a HD plastic one too.
here is the mount

Looks good. A bit higher than I would have done, but nicely done.

I really didn't want it that high, but if the basement door is opened it would block it. I may need to stand on something to put it up if we are on a steep site!

The OP hasn't been on for over 15 months so he won't see your question. Best way to get an answer is to start a new thread. Also, go to the UserCP and add a signature with your camper year, make and model and same for your tow vehicle which will add context to your questions. On a personal note, I despise sitting next to other campers in a camp ground where they are outside blasting music or the TV after dinner time... well heck, any time but I am old and grumpy mostly.

Piggybacking on George's comment; unless in an unimproved, backwoods situation by yourself an outside TV in a campground next to a 1/2 dozen other folks is a no no IMO. Evening football games/concerts etc. need to be viewed INSIDE the RV (at unintrusive sound levels) vs forcing everyone else to listen/view your particular preference.

First off wasn’t asking for opinions but secondly I don’t watch sports or concerts, go to bed early and I’m old. We have an awning system that makes an enclosed porch so it’s like inside our rv. This is solely for a video gaming system also not tv. Lastly I respect my neighbors

Didn't mean to offend but in todays world respect for most everything is gone. An outside TV, unless used in a very quiet manner, is intrusive to everyone around it and just wanted to point that out (I know/knew nothing about you). You did not ask for opinions granted but IMO anyone using an outdoor TV needs to keep consideration for others front and center. Hope you get your situation figured out and have a great camping season.

Response was a bit terse but we all have our opinions... My TT has a spot on the side that says it's for mounting a tv... but, don't think that will ever happen as I'm there to relax and get away from stuff... JMHO..

We have always had (over 35 years of camping, starting from the back of the truck and a tent), a television with us for outside viewing.

My comments about outside televisions... and this may surprise everyone .... I don't have any problem with that. I've seen lots of campsites set up with big screen televisions set up, some on the walls of their campers, some inside a bay door. I've seen the motor homes with the big bay doors and a gigantic television playing in there. It's not un-nerving, or horrible to see that. Most folks respect their neighbor campers. I've not ever heard a television turned on loud enough I could hear it standing in the road, right in front of their campers. But I have seen a lot of folks gathered around a television outside, laughing, chugging the brew, and passing the potato chips! Campfires with the kids cooking hot dogs and everyone having a great time.

My problem with outside televisions, and like I said, we've done it for a lot of years now, is the glair on the television. Now, at night, after dark, it's not a problem. But if you are watching television and the sun is still up, there IS the problem of glair. Sometimes the sun is so bright, it's just impossible to see the scrteen. This is true of lap top computers and I-pads outside too.

As I'm typing right now, I'm outside, sitting in a porch swing, and the glair, in the shade, makes it very hard to even see the screen right in front of me.

To attach a television t the side of a camper seems like a horrible idea to me, especially for this very reason. Unless the television is used exclusively after dark, you'll face this problem.

We have a portable television, a Roku that's internet smart so it get's used a lot, inside the camper and outside. But, it's small enough and light enough we can move it anywhere. And during the course of the day, we may start with the television facing one direction and at the end of the day, the television may be on the other side of the camper, just to keep the glare off the screen.

If mounting to the side of a camper, you are really restricting yourself and subjecting yourself to a lot of frustration, because of glare. Not to mention, what happens, if you find yourself parked on a very uneven campsite, in the mountains of Tennessee, or on a ridge where everything around you goes down hill. The television location will be mounted in the absolute wrong place for that situation.

We found it easiest to keep the television portable, to be able to move it around, and keep it out of the sun. Because of our work hours, we are accustom to bed time by 9:30 or 10:00 pm at the latest. So watching after dark outside, just doesn't happen for us.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents of wisdom.

So, before drilling holes and mounting something permanent, test the waters an set the television on a chair or table where you think you want to mount it first, and see how if works there .... through the entire day. I think you'll quickly see what I'm talking about.
