Thumbs up Curt Mfg Q16 warranty - great warranty service.

During my recent 3 week trip to Florida, my Curt Mfg Q16 had a small problem, where the indicator to show the hitch was latched, ended up being broken. Of course, at first it was sort of worrisome, that it wasn't latching up all the way, but the little indicator was sort of stuck 1/2 between the yellow 'latching' and the green, latched setting. It was very obvious the latch was fully engaged, and I tested it several times with a 'tug test', and then towed all the way home, about 1500 miles without an issue.

Now the Curt Q16 has a "Limited Lifetime" warranty, so when I got home, I took a look at the little indicator, and I could see it really was nothing but a round plastic piece, which had a little pin that broke out of the plastic. I figured that Curt would send me a replacement indicator piece, and I would change it out, and be all set. However, the service tech at Curt said I couldn't change it myself, since there were torque setting which aren't published, so they sent an entire new hitch. The only odd situation was I have the RAM mounting puck system, and when I ordered my hitch, it was shipped by truck since it was too heavy for FedEx. The hitch assembly I got was just for a regular fifthwheel frame mount, so it probably was light enough for FedEx, however, the FedEx guy said, you have to take that off the truck, it's too heavy for them. I lifted it off, and sent him on his way. I just replaced the head/box assembly, and packed it up and dropped it off at the local FedEx location to go back with a 'call-tag' they had included with the replacement.

Overall, they provided great service, the replacement hitch arrived in 3 days, if somewhat a pain because I had to take all of the assembly apart, and put it back together. The worse part is I didn't have the hitch mounted in the truck when I reassembled it, so I'm certain I'll have to loosen all the bolts to remount the hitch, and then torque the bolts back to required settings.

We probably have the same hitch in our '16 Ram 3500 even though it has the Mopar emblem on it. I like this hitch a lot better than the old Reese. Have only pulled with it about 2000 miles with 5-6 hook-ups but it works like a charm so far.

Curt bitch

While I liked my old hitch for the way it connected solidly, the Curt Q16 is just as good, and the locking in feels better with more confidence it's secure, and un hooking is real easy compared to the old hitch. Now, when I pull the lever, it pushes the pin away from the hitch. Before I had to get in the truck aND put it in neutral for the pin to release.

Hey Pmedic4, I bought your old hitch at Indy! Used it a few times and resold it and went with a Curt Q20. The new Curt I bought came to me via UPS and it arrived damaged, dropped and bent the latching handle. I called Curt and they said they would send a new one right out. I told them that some of the decals were kinda scratched up but it was no big deal, they sent a complete decal set with that handle!

Curt! That's how to take care of your customers!!

Smile Curt hitch latching versus the Pullrite

Hey Campy, nice to hear from you.

Did you read my first post about the Pullrite (my original) hitch?

The reason why I ask, is while the latching jaw did a good job of holding the pin, the Curt Q16, which I assume is similar to the Q20 you currently have, seems to 'hold' the pin even tighter. Do you think the same thing?
Also, with that Pullrite hitch, to un-hitch, most of the time after I had put down the landing gear and then to release, I had to get into the truck, put it in neutral with foot off the brake to release the pressure on the pin, and then I could pull the lever. Not hard, just one extra step, where the lever on the Curt pushes the pin out of the hitch.

I have to admit, my new bigger truck also is much heavier so that's an improvement also in towing, so it might be related more to the new truck. Also, I'll admit here my forgetting the timezone difference between my home and where we met to transfer the hitch. Again, thanks for being patient for my screwup.

The the title of my post was to be 'Curt hitch', not 'bitch'...
