Plate lubracation
Hello all, newbie question. We are new to 5th wheels and I am interested in recommendations on what most of you all use. How many are using the white nylon discs vs a squirt of grease?

I wouldn't use anything but the discs. I'm still using the one I bought 8-10 years ago.

I have been using the disk for over 20 years with no issues. I put a little grease on the king pin. I use a king pin lock that covers the pin. No grease for kids to play in and get on the back of your shirt when you get too close.

Plate lubracation
Same here, disc for as long as I can remember. FWIW they come in two sizes and two colors black or white.

Add another believer for the lube plates. However, I shelved the idea for a while after my first attempt. The wrap-around jaws of my Reese hitch, ride very low on the kingpin. Adding the thickness of the lube plate, caused the jaws to catch on the lower lip of the kingpin the first time.
Tired of dealing with the grease, my 2nd try was more successful but still nervous. Subsequent use seems to be better, hitch more confidently goes into its locked position as I assume the plate has compressed slightly.
Hitch is Reese's R16 and pinbox is the 16k Sidewinder (now pinned with wedge removed after moving to the longbed).

Disc here also. I put a new one on every 2-3 years because I manage to crack them from part of the lip overhanging, but they work well and no mess.

I've got an auto-slider. It specifically forbids the white disc (indicates clearance issues) and specifies wd-40.... FYI - may depend on your hitch type.

With the auto/slider, the capture plate prevents the kingpin from rotating in the jaws of the hitch. The entire hitch head rotates. There would be no need for a lube plate in between the pin box and the hitch plate. I believe that PullRite calls for wd40 on some of its hitches, while, on others, the slides are faced with Teflon.
