Electric Tongue Jack

I have an Outback 272RK. According to the specs, it weighs about 6000 pounds. I want to replace the manual tongue jack with an electric one. I see CW has them on sale right now. Will a 3500 pound jack be sufficient? I would assume so, but I want to ask before I purchase, install and discover the hard way that I should have spent the extra and got something a little larger.

Thanks.

Daryl

I would think that is enough to lift the TT tongue weight and the rear of pick up for installing the WD bars.

Thanks guys.

My first camper had a manual tongue jack, and it only took a couple of cranks to raise and lower the camper. However, with this camper, I'm cranking forever when using the this tongue jack. An electric tongue jack now is a must have.

Thanks.

A 3500 lb powered jack should do the job fine. You will be so thrilled with it you will never own another TT without one!

I couldn't agree more. I would suggest that you insure that the batter(ies) are in decent shape or that you stay plugged in when using the jack.

When we went back to a trailer after full-timing, that was the first thing I bought? Wouldn't be without an electric jack.

yes you will be fine with 3500 lbs lift capacity. But try Amazon before CW. Might find the same product but less expensive and if the price is right....free shipping!

Exclamation

May I make a suggestion after you purchase the electric jack, either purchase a cover for it or take a 5 gallon pail & invert it over the jack & bungee cord it when parked. Otherwise water WILL find a way to get in & ruin it. I learned the hard way, mine went bad (innards filled with water) the day after the warranty expired. I ended up having to make replacement parts because there is NO parts to buy to replace the rusted & corroded parts. The dealer said they were throw away once broken.

Not sure what brand the poster has, but I've had two no name, off ebay, jacks on my previous trailer and my current trailer. Never covered them and they never failed to work. And we live with monsoon rains. I wouldn't worry about it...but again, can't talk about brands.

Hello all. I decided to revisit this post and ask a follow up question.

I had not ordered the electric jack as I first posted. I kept putting it off, now I need to get it ordered so I can get it installed before camping season. I've been looking at different brands and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on brand?

Someone suggested looking at Amazon as well and I was surprised that they actually have a better selection that CW and the prices are better.

I think that I finally narrowed my choice down to this Husky jack.

Anyone have a comment on this jack? I can't really find any documentation on it, not even on Husky's website. Their site is very limited on information.

Thanks.

rosede,
Yep. That's the one I got and it works well.
As Bart Simpson would say, "elevator goes up, elevator goes down"
I would recommend this Husky 87489 3000 lbs. Brute Power Jack

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT order the LCI contoured ones . http://store.lci1.com/next-generatio...-jack-p68.aspx

They look pretty, but I have had 3 of them fail. 1st one (2500lb) motor quit, replaced with 3500, gears snapped, had it not still been hooked to my truck we would have had major issues. 3rd one ((3500), motor quit after 8mths. To LCI's credit they did refund me the cost of the last one without question. I had documented each occasion. I think the last one was due to water, given the rust I saw when I took the plastic off,(BTW, first and only time I used the offset screw driver)

They are just garbage.
