Springdale 300FWBH - Hitch Guidance

I am in the process of purchasing a 2018 Springdale 300FWBH. I have a 2015 2500HD Chevy Crew Cab Shortbed. The fifth wheel is a mid profile version and I am between two hitches:

1) Pullrite 4100 (16k - auto slider)
2) B&W Patriot (16k non-slider)

I prefer the B&W because it allows height adjustment and I cannot find that the Pullrite does. I will only go with the Pullrite if I really need a slider.

Does anyone know if a slider is required with this application? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. If your close to the trailer you can just use a tape measure. Measure from the king pin to the front edge of the trailer.

Then using a point that is 1” in front of the rear axle and centered side to side, take that measurement and see if it hits the corner of the cab. Better safe than sorry IMO.

I can’t tell how much radius the front cap on the Springdale has.. I pull with a short bed duramax and have a 16K slider hitch but in five years used once...at dealer to see how it worked.. I pull a Keystone Alp8ne with 88 degree radius on front cap edges...

Also... might I suggest taking a look at Husky brand hitch... the articulated head and single jaw make hitchin a snap...

Never had a single issue with the Husky....

Thank you both. The Springdale 300FWBH claims the 88 degree turning radius on the front cap also, which makes me think I will be good without a slider. I have pulled a travel trailer for 10 + years, but this is my first fifth wheel.

My only reason for not going with the Pullrite (better safe than sorry) is my concern about leveling and no adjustment. I will take a look at the Husky also.

If you go with the Patriot you will like it. I have the slider version. Only needed it 3 times. Sadly only used it 2. Trailer kissed the truck and left a little hickey.

I just purchased a new 302FWRK and have the Reese 16K. It was not a slider and the corner of the trailer did touch my driver side (2013 RAM 2500) corner ever so slightly. Went to Etrailer.com and was able to by the Slider arms. I now use the slider when maneuvering only. Very happy with the hitch and its performance.

We have the 16K Reese and have no issues with the hitch. The hitch is mounted on the Reese round bar slider. Used the slider at every camp at first - then got to where we didn't use the slider at all (our trailer has the radius front cap). Then one day, while washing the truck, I noticed a very slight, hard to see dimple in the corner of the cab. Use the slider now at every campground.
If I had to buy another hitch, it would be an auto slider.

I use the Demco Hijacker auto slider and love it. It has some height adjustability which is great. Might be something to look at.

Thanks for the all the feedback. It sounds like I need to get the slider for exception situations.

Phdruss - How are you liking your new fifth wheel?
