5th Wheel Lube plate

How do you know which 5th wheel lube plate to purchase? I've got a TS-3 Hensley 5th wheel hitch, and a Avalanche 355 MB. are they one size fits all? I do know that they come in different thicknesses.

Regardless of what the hitch manufacturer recommends for lube plate diameter the plate only needs to be of a size to fit the pin plate on the trailer. My hitch recommends a 12-inch lube plate ,however the pin box on my trailer is only 10 inches so the other four inches is hanging out in space.

What Javi said. They only need to be as big as the smaller of the two, but you can saw off the excess if you like.

Lots of things will happen to them, I have had them stolen, hit the hitch a little crooked and cracked or bent them.... etc....

They're just a less messy solution to using grease on the pin plate. Keep a couple in the storage.

There are 2 types. the white ones that are silicone I believe and grey which are graphite impregnated (my choice when we had a 5ver).

These gadgets are worth every bit of their 10 buck or thereabouts cost just in keeping things clean. As far as size - neither one is really correct for our hitch combo so I just end up using the larger, 11" diameter version, and assume that I'll probably wreck it with a misdirected hitch and always keep a spare on hand.

Now, that gray versin - I've never seen one advertised so will see if I can find one for my next hitching misadventure as if indeed it's graphite impregnated, it might just keep the paint on the B&W wheel better

Have always used the plates for our 5er. It's a must have in my opinion.

I've been through several. Even with a 2500 pound pin, I have never had to replace one due to the plate wearing out through its surface. In each case, the inside that grips the pin wears out and it won't stay on any longer.

Short answer, if it falls off, its time to replace it in my book. BTW, I've tried hammering the center to expand the teeth but it only works for one trip.
