Heading to creede Colorado this summer
Hello all, have a trip to creede colorado from Houston planned for this august. Looking to take our time and try not to do any 600 mile days. Thinking of stopping one night in Wichita falls Texas at yogi bear. Looking for suggestions on where to stay the next night.... thanks all!

Check out Clayton RV park on 87 just past Texline. I think it used to be a KOA.
Stayed there a few years ago while out on tour. It was good for a night.

350 miles from Wichita Falls. 5.5 hours. Some on beautiful scenic HWY287.

No suggestions for your trip from you direction but glad to see you are going to Creede. We were there the last two summers for a Wood Carving Rendezvous and absolutely love the town. Hope you get to take in the Repertory Theater as well as one of the best meals we've ever had that was at the Hotel ($$$$).

While in Creede don't forget to take the back road out of town and visit the old mining area. There are some old mining remains that are unbelievable. It makes you wonder how in the world they worked areas like that and what life had to be like. The loop (something about "boys" or ?) is a worthwhile jaunt as well. The drive from Creede to Lake City used to be really beautiful following the Rio Grande but they had a forest fire 2 years ago or so and ruined some of the scenery. Lake City, the lake there and the mountain pass roads are fun too. Take your time and get in as much as you can.

The road from Creede to Lake City is a great drive but be aware of Slumgullion Pass. Its a long and steep downgrade heading toward Lake City. Everything needs to be in good shape for this road.

Yes, don't do it with the RV unless you have a reason to go on to Laramie?? from Lake City. I was thinking it could be a "look see" drive with the RV in Creede. It's a steep, twisty 2 lane into Lake City.

Gotta admit, I've done it the last two years and never gave it a second thought. It is twisty but not a problem. Beautiful drive, just take your time.

We were in Creede about 5 years ago and were satisfied with our stay at at Mountain Views RV.
As mentioned in an earlier post do not miss the Repertory Theater.
