And we stayed at the KOA on the US side. It was very nice and only about 15 minutes from the falls. Would have loved to go to the other side but no vet cert for Cat and carried a handgun. Anyway I can highly recommend the "maid of the mist" tour. We also climbed the wooden planks on the US side all the way to the top, What a rush!!!!!

I second this campground as a good home base.

Don't forget to visit Lake Niagara as well.

Also...the bus route passes directly by this KOA. Bus stop right across the street. No need to drive/park to see the falls or town. Suggest taking in the Falls Museum. Again...right on the bus route.

KOA U.S. side. Great location. Both sides, U.S. and Canada, beautiful in their own way. We felt the U.S. side felt much more like a National Park and the Canadian side more active and commercial. Maid of the Mist is a must!!! We always thought of New York as New York City - wow! Northern New York is breathtaking. We drove the Seaway Scenic Trail on our way to Vermont, and it was awesome.

We live in upstate New York and always emphasize Upstate. Last June we toured the Finger Lakes, Niagara Falls & the Seaway. Totally agree with with everything Koko said. Only thing I would add is if you are in eastern upstate New York, definitely spend some time in our Adirondacks!

We have stayed at the Lundy Ln KOA in the past and really liked it. It can be pricey depending on the exchange rate. Indoor pool and two outdoor pools amount other things.

Gary -
At today's current rate of exchange, American visitors to Canada gain 25 cents on every dollar. Your dollar is worth approximately $1.25 here so the price of the KOA is not as pricey as you would think.

There has been a marked increase in American tourists visiting Canada this year just because of the favorable rate and fewer Canadian visitors to the US because of the "beating" they take on our lower dollar.

That is good to know. It has been a long time since we were there but it was worth a $1.50 or so so we made out pretty good.

I live in and camp in this area all the time:

Four Mile Creek State Park
- great park
- prices, includes bathrooms and electric
- no sewer hookup, but there is a free dump
- close to the mouth of the Niagara River
- can also tour Ft Niagara while in area
- close to a lot of winery's

KOA Niagra Falls North / Lewiston
- never been here but has all the normal stuff that KOA does
- would only caution that if really warm and windy, does sit somewhat close to a landfill... never been here to know if that has an effect on the air quality though

KOA Grand Island
- you said no

Niagara Lazy Lakes
- is a seasonal type rental place, however also has rentals
- www.lazylakes.com

Good luck and have fun!
