That bright blue "night light"

Is there any way to shut off the light on the stereo/CD control panel? It lights up the whole trailer and we can't find a way to shut it off. So far we have just taped an index card over it.....tacky, tacky, tacky! Someone must have come up with a solution for this annoying light.

Don't know what trailer you have, but here is a thread a member posted for a Fuzion. Hope that helps.

Thanks. We have a Cougar, but I'm sure the fix will probably be the same.

There are several brands of stereos that are installed in various Keystone products. Some of them have a brightness control for the backlight in the menu, some of them don't. I'd urge you to read through your owner's manual to see if the stereo you have might be one of the ones with an adjustable backlight. Trying to go by which Keystone RV brand you have will probably lead to 3 or 4 different stereos over the past couple of years.

I put a true on/off switch on the 12vdc line going to the radio, sure I lose my presets and stuff but I never use them anyway.

Saves the batteries too when off the grid.

We have the same issue with our iRV radio that is directed towards our bed. Unfortunately it only comes with a one page owner's manual that is a feature sheet and I have had no success finding a manual online. I also stepped thru the menu and have not found any way to dim the display. Adding a switch to the 12 vdc supply seems like an option.

It is somewhat shocking how much light the various appliances, etc. display as the normal course of business. We have a small camper, but the iRV radio and the power button on the refrigerator are bright enough to light a small house. The radio is an easy fix, as discussed above, but I need to figure out something for the fridge. A piece of electrical tape would solve it, but the wife wouldn't think that was very nice to look at.

Very easy job to put a switch on the power supply wire from the back of the player-radio. Problem solved.

Bright Ideas Needed!

We had the same problem with our radio in our 204RBS. I think the brand is a Sanswa and there is no way to dim the bright blue display.

I had an 0.030" thick piece of ABS plastic sheeting (EBay) and cut it 0.5" larger than the display on the radio. I then used two black velcro adhesive dots at the top two corners to hold it in place.

You cant really even notice it when its hanging there and it can easilly be removed when you want to use the radio.

Our's is a Jensen unit and it has three light levels. I set ours to the dimmest & it is tolerable.

Get rid of the tacky index card and go with a small piece of black electrical tape, blocks the light and is hardly visible....best part, it's a 60 second fix that you probably already have laying around the house/garage.

Our stereo is in the living area so we cannot see it from the bedroom. Never gave it much thought as we don't really use it but we sleep with the tv on so the light from anything else is nothing. I agree that adding a switch would be the best solution.

In our Keystone Passport 195RB we have a Jensen AM/FM, model AWM970.

To adjust the LCD brightness manual indicates to press and hold the [B]VOL[B] control to access the user menu. Press the VOL control to step through the menu options. Rotate the VOL control to adjust the LCD brightness from "LIGHT 1" (brightest) to "LIGHT 3" (least bright).

Black tape. Can't see it's tackiness in the dark. In the morning, remove it. No more tacky.

You're !

I just hit the power button on mine. It goes dark when it turns off.

I pulled the fuse for the silly thing for the winter, too... Something to think about. That thing is a useless current draw when the trailer is sitting, if you don't have shore power charging it.

I turn all the AC breakers off except the main breaker and the converter and pull that stereo DC fuse.

By the way, I know they're trying to be "helpful" by having an LED light up at the location of a failed fuse, but again, another current draw. Luckily, I can leave my 5er hooked to power all winter.

If I couldn't, I'd be turning all AC breakers off and adding a battery disconnect switch at the battery or removing the battery altogether to keep it on a maintenance charger.
