Upcoming Oregon-California Trip

We are planning a trip out to Lincoln City/Depoe Bay to stay at Sea & Sand RV Park, then down to Gold Beach (Turtle Bay RV) and then to Crescent City (Redwoods RV), and ending up at Bend (Crown Villa). Any feedback on these places or suggestions on things to do/see ??

Those are all great places and you will love the trip. There are just too many places along that trip to start suggesting sightseeing places. The best seafood on the OR coast is in Nye Beach (Newport below Lincoln City) at the Chowder Bowl. I'm sure you will get to Crater Lake NP. And wander through the Redwoods. Hope you can just take you time and stop when you want. Don't rush it...there is too many places to mention.

At Depoe Bay, book a boat trip, fishing or whale watching. At Gold Beach book a jet boat trip up the river. I stayed at the Depoe Bay RV park you listed about 25 years ago, it was clean, lots of stuff for the kids to do as I recall. As a child my grand parents had a house near the park (before it was a rv park) and we stayed there several weeks many summers. I do not have any knowledge of the local stuff anylonger.

Don't forget the aquarium/science center in Newport. It is quite near the Rogue Brewery and Distillery. Also in that area is the South Beach Fish Market, where you can get lunch. The Luna Sea restaurant in Yachats is also a good place for seafood. Just a little hole in the wall, but they often have fish caught that morning on the owner's boat. Also good for lunch is The Hungry Clam in the wharf area of Brookings. They have good chowder. Tony's in Old Town Bandon is also popular for lunch. The entire Old Town are is fun to explore. There is good RV parking in the area, too. We really enjoy finding the little market/restaurant places for lunches, as we normally eat in for supper.

The Good Harvest restaurant in Crescent City was recommended to us as a good place for seafood, but I have to say that we were quite disappointed in their food. The clam chowder tasted like potato soup that was thickened with white flour, and the oysters were breaded rather than battered. That is personal preference, I know, but we like ours battered.

Have a great trip. We just returned this week from ours...almost the same area except that we started a bit further south and ended up in Grants Pass before heading down I-5 into California.

Shore Acres State Park - lovely gardens and walking trails just north of Coos Bay. Sea Lion Cave north of Florence. Jedediah Smith State Park is also very nice at Crescent City. So much beauty!!

Thanks so much for the tips.....we went to the aquarium and Rogue Brewery two years ago when we brought our adult children/families over and rented a house in Lincoln City -- it was a ball !! This time it's just us two with our new toyhauler (altho leaving toys home). Think I'll throw in my sewing machine and do some quilting listening to the ocean. Very relaxed. I'm 60 and have never seen the Redwoods so looking forward to it. Take care......

If you are headed to the coast through Philomath, don't miss JannieLou's quilt shop. It's on the right hand side of the street going west. There is also a nice little shop in Brookings on the left across the street from Les Schwab.

I always take my small machine and at least one or two projects with us. More often than not, none of them gets worked on, but sometimes I find the time.
