Dual Grey Tanks

I have a Outback 320BH that we picked up the other week. The unit comes with 2 grey tanks and 1 black tank. My question is, does the kitchen grey automatically flow into the bathroom grey once full (also, what is the capacity of each of the grey tanks, both come to 60 gallons from what I've read ). I know that I have to dump both of the grey tanks.

I can't say with certainty about your unit but usually the galley gray tank does not drain into the main tank, in fact the reason for having a separate galley tank is that sometimes due to the layout of the unit there is no easy way to drain the galley sink into the main tank, hence a separate tank and drain handle (which may be a ways from the main gray tank drain handle and not obvious unless you look for it.) And usually the galley tank is smaller in capacity than the main tank.

Somewhere inside one of your overhead cabinets SHOULD be a sticker with the size of the individual tanks. They may be listed by weight full so around 8 lbs. per gallon. They most likely are two 30 gallon tanks. My Cougar has 1 - 30 gal. and 1 - 28 Gallon .... I guess whatever fit in that model.

You are correct on the separate dump valves being quite away from each other the black/grey are at the rear will the galley is around the middle. The only bummer with that is we don't really use much bathroom water, so we'll probably have to bring along the tote.

I will find out for sure this coming weekend.

And my 325 SRX has one 60-gallon and one 16-gallon. It will be different for every model. Like hankpage said, whatever fits...

There is not a main and sub tank with one dumping into the other. There are two separate grey tanks. One handles the gally sink and the other takes the shower and batroom sink.

You can always open both grey dump valves and they will flow into one another and equalize. You just have to make sure the main dump outlet cap has a good seal. Of course you will spill a little when you go to dump but not more than will fit into a pail. Just a thought.

The Outback 320BH has two 30 gallon grey tanks and one 30 gallon black tank. they do not have a cross over line and are completly seperate tanks, so as they get full they must be emptied seperatly.

+1 on opening both grey tanks to equalize, my shower tank always fills first, thank's to DW.

I also added another slider valve so I don't have to rely on the cap to hold back the flow....probably a good idea anyway even if you don't equalize.

Many folks have added some kind of transfer capability to their gray water tank(s) over the years. The intent is to be able to move the gray water from a tank that fills up quickly (like the shower tank) to one that fills much slower (like black or a large kitchen tank.) The most common one I have seen involves adding a pump and piping to move gray water into the black tank to prolong the time between dump trips when boondocking.

Very interesting article, I can understand doing it the way your
article discribes it . I was refering to the 'Let's fill-up the drain tubes
and have a mess when we un-cork it.' philosophy... that's all...

OMG, that is what this forum is for. I just bought 2012 Alpine 10 months ago and thought one tanked when full flowed to the other. Just called Keystone and they confirmed 2 SEPARATE tanks. Good thing is I never found out the hard way.

Thanks for the feedback. The tanks do not overflow, checked it this passed weekend at the campsite.

Would be nice if the literature stated two 30 gallon grey tanks instead of a 60 gallon grey....

Use less ink to print the 60 gal. statement as opposed to the 2 30 gal. statement.....
