Roof vent covers

We don’t have them but I am considering getting them to cover the roof vents. What are your experience with them, Are they worth it? If so what brand/type do you have and is there any should I avoid? Thanks!

Maxair covers are worth every dollar spent. They protect the OEM covers from cracking and shattering due to UV exposure and other things.. You can also leave the vent open and with the Maxair cover over it you are not flexing and vibrating it to death while towing down the road...

MaxAire covers (or any other brand) are definitely worth the cost and the effort to install. They prevent rainwater from entering the trailer through a "forgotten open roof vent" and as posted above, they protect the trailer roof vents from UV damage and allow towing with the vents open....

One caution, however, they don't stop dust/sand/dirt in one of the "way too many sand storms" in the southwest... So, there are some situations where it's still the best option to close the factory roof vents. BTDT in Shiprock, NM

Not to mention in addition to what Chuck and John said - if the vent is open and you get an unexpected downpour when you are at the neighbors trailer drinking GlenMorangie, you won't come back to a flood.

I'd also recommend the Maxx Aire brand! They are pricey, but that's one item I've found that you get what you pay for, the cheaper brands don't hold up near as well.

Awesome - thanks John - SO simple!!!!

I assume they are sold in various sizes? You buy whichever one is slightly bigger? Or are they standard?

I'm sure by bathroom vent is standard - but the kitchen has a "Turbo" vent style fan ....

Maxair here as well, well worth it. I'm not aware of any roof vent sizes other than the standars 14" sq.

I also got the Maxx Aire to cover the Mazz Aire exhaust vent in the top of my 5er. But I did get the black one to cut down on some of the sunlight coming in up there.

I have the originals and they have worked great for us. If I had to replace them I would go with the II. I would probably wait until I needed to for some reason but not just pull them to put the II on. Here is an explanation of the difference from etrailer;

The first is that the standard unit is a bit smaller at 19 inches long compared to the 22-3/4 inch length on the MaxxAir 2. The other difference is that the MaxxAir 2 cover features hinges at the bottom that allow you to lift the cover up for easy cleaning without actually removing any hardware.

The size difference might make it a bit more convenient as my kitchen power vent is pretty tight in there. There appears to be more "vent" area which would probably be helpful but I've never noticed a problem. The hinged access would be nice.

I have had both models and I like the MaxxAir II model because it has more vent area and they have hinges for easy cleaning and roof maintenance. I had my covers negotiated into the deal as a free add-on when I bought the camper so I have no idea of the price difference.

We have always had them. Except on our new camper. Went to install them. Fits over the bathroom vent; but, not over the one in the kitchen. Because it's so high it has an electric switch to open and turn it on. It can't open far enough with the Max Air, so we had to forgo putting that one on.

I’ve had both, the Maxxair II is the way to go. Not only larger, but just pull two clips and it rotates open for cleaning.

Are they worth the money? I won’t own a trailer without them. I use the white ones, i like the light getting in. Black ones don’t allow any light and it gets very dark. If you want a compromise, they make smoke as well.

Get the maxxair II. It’ll work with your fantastic fan.

I have the maxair 2..love them and easy to install ..keep in mind if you have a fantastic fan the vent lid will hit the inside of the maxair cover..it limits it from fully opening but is not noticeable. It still moves close to the same volume of air but at a higher velocity i’d imagine.

Agree 100%, our first set were Camco, and after about three years they were very brittle and one blew away in a wind storm.
We have MaxAir now.

I looked at the Camco covers in a CW once and they were thin. I've seen more than one on the side of the road.
