Scanning old photo negatives.

This is not exactly specifically RV related, but I'll bet a lot of people have old negatives that they'd like to get in a digital format.
I bought a slide and photo scanner for the DW but she had some negatives from her parents that wouldn't fit in the scanner.
At first she started to physically cut them to fit. After I picked myself up off the floor from the shock of destroying precious old pics, I came up with a solution for her.

I made a plain white pic in a graphics program and emailed it to her iPad. The iPad has a calibrated white display and so it makes a perfect light table. We put the negs on the iPad and place the glass from a picture frame over it to keep the negs perfectly flat. We use the camera on the macro setting so it can focus up close.
The box came with the photo scanner, so that was free.
