Battery Maintenance / Winter Storage

Any suggestions on how to maintain batteries in a 2020 Keystone Cougar Half Ton Model 29MBS during winter storage when 50 amp shore power is not available?

I have access to 20 amp circuit for an external charger, just not sure about connecting it to batteries without removing them from 5th Wheel.

Many thanks!

If you have access to a 20 amp outlet, I would plug the trailer into that using a dog bone adapter and let the on board charger/converter do it’s thing. Leave the batteries on the trailer and plug into shore power if it’s available.

You want to check the water level in the batteries about once a month. If they are low, top off with distilled water. You can get a battery water pitcher that makes this task very easy.

If you have access to …..

Whoops! Logan beat me to it! Another way to keep the water in the batteries that requires almost no effort is a battery water system. This trailer has batteries that are difficult to get to so I installed one. Take out a jug of distilled water, attach the pump hose, squeeze a couple of time until batteries are full. Disconnect and go on down the road.

Here's a link to the fill kit. You need the little pump listed on down the page.

I bring my 2 - 6v batteries into my garage during the down months. I turn on on a small (2 amp) maintainer every week for about a day. Having them in the garage allows me to check the water level, keep them warm, and charge them.
