Slip on tow mirror, Longview, CIPA

I know you get what you pay for but I'm not changing my mirrors for oem tow mirrors anytime soon.I tow maybe 5 times a year, at least until I stop working. On my chevy I had CIPA slip ons. They didn't do so well, they sucked. On the new ford, I purchased Longview. They fit GREAT but the clip and knob are inferior and will need to be replaced. But at 1695 plus shipping its rediculous! Has anyone been able to come up with a home made alternative to the clip and knob for the longview, at least till I retire?
