Question Newbie here.

Hey everyone new to this forum. Love the info. I'm thinkin of buyin a 2010 Raptor 300mp. But I'm nervous my 04 GMC 2500 won't be enough to handle it. I'll prob carry 2 Harley dressers. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks. By the way it's a crew cab short bed diesel.

As you can see from the truck in our signature, it is an '05 GMC Extended cab short box -- Duramax diesel. If I were considering towing the Raptor that you're thinking about, I'd be looking to buy a "bigger truck" - probably a 1T dually.
Having said that, you just might be on the edge of being "OK" and "not quite enough truck".

Just my opinion - not based on any factual information or number crunching.

Welcome to the forum. You've got a very similar post in another section of the forum where you are asking for feedback about your present tow vehicle. Having members respond in two different locations to the same question is a bit confusing.

Thanks for your input most of the time it would be my wife and I and one bike. It's a real nice camper and a pretty good deal. It's hard to get honest info out of someone sellin stuff or a salesmen sometimes. It's a private sale and the guy had a f250 and just got a 350. He's upgrading to a cyclone.

Post Been there

X2 Festus2. That weight is probably the dry weight of the Raptor 300 sounds a little low to be, mine was 12,400 Dry. I was there with a 2005 Silverado 2500HD 4X4 EC LB 8.1L Gaser with 4:10. GVWR 9200. Well not there long after I did some calculations. As you can see by my signature did not feel comfortable with the TV. Yes it can pull it. If I recall with the Raptor at around 12,500 and pin weight around 2450 you will be about 500 lbs over the GVWR of the truck. Raptors have a high pin weight. You will find many other threads on this subject as well as differences of opinion regarding a TV 's GVWR. I suggest you look into a 1T TV and a Dually for stability. Raptor is 13' 2" to top of AC. Be Safe

Post F250 Heavy Duty

Forgot to comment on the F250, The Chevy Silverado 2500HD's GVWR is 9200lbs, where was the Ford f250 as I recall its GVWR is 10,000. That gives you that extra 800 lbs for pin weight and cargo. I would say that would be border line for the Raptor. Again many good comments and varying opinions regarding TVs and GVWRs out there. I guess you have to be safe and comfortable with your decision.

Your pin will not drop anywhere near this. If your dry empty pin is 2390 you will still be at least that loaded for the road. You need to scale rig to be sure but I suspect you will be over your rear truck tire capacity or very close.

Your truck is rated to pull 16,600 lbs.

So depending on how much other weight you load, your truck will perform just fine.

Using your figures, the pin weight would be less than 10%. Recommended pin weight is between 15 and 25%. I'm guessing that a pin weight that low could cause some significant handling problems.

The only "valid" weight would be one where the trailer is loaded for a trip and hauled to a scale to weigh the truck, trailer and combination. Once those weights are determined, then it's a matter of either finding out that you're OK or that you're overloaded. I'm guessing that you'll either be overloaded or so close that you wouldn't feel comfortable to start out on a long journey with your family in the truck.

If possible, get the trailer and truck to a scale before you spend the money.

Both of the threads concerning this truck/trailer combination have been merged into one thread. It was becoming very difficult to decipher what was being said in two places. Hopefully this action will help focus any comments in one place and turn out to be more useful to the original poster and to anyone posting recommendations/comments as well as to future members who may be searching for similar answers.
