I"m dealing with this issue too where every 1/8 of a inch could make a difference to cover the dinette side wall. The main reason I decided to get slide out toppers is to stop water running down the side wall of the slide out where water was getting into my rv but that's another problem. So what is the usefulness of the Torsion arm cap?...Can that be omitted gaining another 1/2 inch?

If your talking about the cap on the awning arm, it’s there to keep water out of the arm, and looks AFAIK.
