Frozen toilet supply valve

Left home in SC last Sunday morning with temps in the upper teens. I had drained the water system at the end of November and blew out with my air compressor. When we got Merritt Island FL I hooked up the water and all seemed well. Got up during the night and the bath floor was wet. Investigating the next morning found water spraying from the valve when I flushed the toilet (Thetford Aqua Magic). Only sprayed when the foot lever was pushed. Went to Camping World and bought a replacement valve (paid $45 for a valve I could get on Amazon for $25, &#129324. When to Home Depot and bought a fixture stop valve and a braided SS supply line. Installed the fixture stop in the supply PEX pipe so I could cut the water off to the toilet if I had future issues. Pulled the toilet and replaced the valve, reinstalled the toilet with the SS braided supply line. The actual replacement is dead simple, all you need is an adjustable wrench or pliers to remove the toilet hold down bolts and a Philips screwdriver to remove the valve. Reading on line I found this is a common issue with Thetford toilets, even after draining and blowing out the system, that valve retains water and can freeze.

That's why I spend the few dollars to run RV antifreeze thru after blowing out the water lines.

I'm glad you got it fixed and thanks for sharing. Given my experience with the Thetford Aqua Magic I would have put that $45 toward a new Dometic 310 or 320. Pulled the new Thetford out of this one as soon as I got it home and replaced with a 310.

The next thing to expect from the Thetford POS toilet is the pedal will fall off, that's $89+.
I'd agree with sourdough, ditch the Thetford ASAP & get one of the Dometics.

I'm guessing you're expecting Camping World to sell at the same price as Amazon? I probably shouldn't even open this can of worms....

To me buying RV parts at CW is like buying your groceries at 7-11. You pay for the convenience. It's near impossible for any sticks & bricks store to compete with Amazon. The overhead of the store, the property, the employees, and the low volume of sales, etc. simply cannot compete with the business model of Amazon.

Before hitting "order now" on Amazon, or any online parts store, always drop down to read the full product description, some items are "remanufactured" or "refurbished", just be aware of what you're buying at those discounted prices.

The problem with the toilet is people for get to press on the pedal when winterizing. The other common item (with a house) is the ice maker...people just for get about it and/or the water dispenser in the fridge. (winterizing summer places). For the camper, we opted to use rv antifreeze too.
