Black spots on ceiling of rv

What causes black marks on the ceiling in a travel trailer? They seem to be showing up in the past month.

Possibly mildew or mold from condensation?

Mould would be my guess. Have you done any maintenance on the roof?

High humidly conditions/lack of ventilation will cause mold growth to appear on the ceiling after a period of time. With the right humidity, mold will start to grow on microscopic dust/food particles within 72 hours. For it to become visible it takes weeks of growth. Lower the humidity and it takes a nap and wakes up again when humidity is right. Key factors affecting indoor humidly are cold outside and lots of bodies inside, cooking, showering, lack of ventilation, etc.

You have a mold issue...clean those spots off and apply a mix of water and bleach..

I’d also be looking inside all cabinets and closets...if you don’t stop this now you will have more issues... and black mold can cause all sorts of respiratory issues

Let’s not be an alarmist. Mold is a potential irritant to some people. In others it doesn’t cause any issues. Surface molds like the one described are almost always a derivative of penicillium aspergillus (and like it sounds, is in the same family as penicillin). The fabled toxic black mold
stachybotrus chartarum is almost exclusively found in chronically wet/damp hidden areas with no air movement.

Isopropyl alcohol is a much more effective and safe means to remove mold. Put it in a spray bottle, mist the affected areas and wipe with a clean paper towel replacing the paper towel often.
