That is true with a gas engine that you have to put the foot to the pedal uphill. I have had three gas trucks that ran great my mpg was 6. The 2500 GMC Suburban had a 454 motor and pulled my travel trailer great but ate the fuel. Pulling a 39'4" 5th wheel loaded I think a diesel is the better choice for power and more fuel efficient.

Fuel mileage and pulling a camper should not even be in the same sentence. I have a 100gal auxiliary fuel tank and I use GasBuddy to find the cheapest diesel. I have a a PenFed credit card that I get five percent off if I swipe the card and nothing if I don’t. I have a Verizon card that gets.04 off, last month I took 80 bucks off my phone bill using that card. I don’t know if I could make a auxiliary tank pay off now or not. I looked at a tank made by Boyd welding and a 100gal tank with pump was $1900 bucks. I normally just pump the diesel. I was coming back from Alaska one time and came up on a gas station and the diesel was $1.99 a liter I just kept on pumping. I wish I got a little better fuel mileage, don’t we all
