Wife and I weight about 300#, no dogs and occasional grandkids maybe 120#. Seriously looking at another manufacturer's 5th wheel with a GVWR 13995# and pin wt of 2197#. If I am looking at this correctly, the 2490 max pin wt comes out to 17.8%. I have read about the 20 to 23% but what do you all think?

With your info, 710 lbs of payload is used up if you have the grandkids with you. Add to that 23% of trailer GVWR of 13,995 = 3,218 more in estimated pin weight. So total estimate going against your truck's payload is
3,928 lbs.
What is the max carrying capacity (payload) listed on the yellow/white door sticker on
your specific truck? If it's less than 3,928 you'll be overloaded. I'd guess you will be very close, depending on options, with the truck's GVWR at 10,650.
As mentioned, not sure how happy you would be hauling something like that with a gasser. I am at about 8500-9000 loaded with my F350 6.2 and it pulls it great. Not sure how it would do adding 4000 more pounds though. Others with more experience towing real heavy with gas can address that.
