I personally wouldn't pull a 5er with that GVWR with a gas engine. Just my opinion.

Wife and I weight about 300#, no dogs and occasional grandkids maybe 120#. Seriously looking at another manufacturer's 5th wheel with a GVWR 13995# and pin wt of 2197#. If I am looking at this correctly, the 2490 max pin wt comes out to 17.8%. I have read about the 20 to 23% but what do you all think?
With your info, 710 lbs of payload is used up if you have the grandkids with you. Add to that 23% of trailer GVWR of 13,995 = 3,218 more in estimated pin weight. So total estimate going against your truck's payload is 3,928 lbs.

What is the max carrying capacity (payload) listed on the yellow/white door sticker on your specific truck? If it's less than 3,928 you'll be overloaded. I'd guess you will be very close, depending on options, with the truck's GVWR at 10,650.

As mentioned, not sure how happy you would be hauling something like that with a gasser. I am at about 8500-9000 loaded with my F350 6.2 and it pulls it great. Not sure how it would do adding 4000 more pounds though. Others with more experience towing real heavy with gas can address that.

After reading my post, can't resist quoting my own reply.....

If doing the above, add 'cracking the truck window' to your pre-departure checklist.

To clarify, I'm not an "expert" but do have the experience you are inquiring about. When I purchased my fifth wheel I had a 2016 F250 6.2L CC 2WD to pull the trailer which is (was) about a thousand pounds lighter than the FW you are looking to tow. In short, the truck pulled the trailer but I could tell it did not like it. I just felt like I was slowly overworking the motor and
drivetrain. Also that big motor in your GMC will get thirsty when towing. Getting fuel (gas) will take some planning to avoid maneuvering around a crowded filling station.

The numbers posted suggest a "heavyweight fifth wheel" with a GVWR of 16620 and a pin weight of 2490. That works out to 14.9%. THAT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN !!! Even at 15,000 pounds, that pin is going to come in much closer to 22% (3300 pounds) and then add the hitch. If you're considering a conventional sliding fifth wheel hitch, you're looking at 200-300 pounds added to that 3300 pound pin. That's putting 3500-3600 pounds "in the bed" with the trailer "1600 pounds below GVWR"

The "other trailer" is in that same category. At 13995, the pin is going to be close to 3100 pounds, then add the hitch to that and you're looking at 3200-3300 pounds "in the bed".

That's a "load" for any gas engine equipped 3/4 ton truck with a payload of 3230. Either of those fifth wheels, when you add the hitch, is going to put you "at max payload" before you buckle in the DW.
