Towing capacity

Hey Keystone family, I'm in search of information in regards to towing a 2021 358 Carbon 5th wheel. Can my 2018 Silverado 2500 HD safely do the job?
Thanks!

Short answer, no. Just the pin weight of the trailer alone is going to eat up most,if not all of your payload. More detailed answers to follow I'm sure.

Hopefully you have not purchased the trailer yet. If this is the case then congratulations, you are assembling your tow combination the correct way. Getting to much trailer for your truck and then having to upgrade the truck? Yes, I am a member of that club so don't feel bad, just do what is safe for that "precious cargo" you are hauling.

If you have purchased the trailer, well...Clean up your truck and trade it for a dually. Brutal but correct advice. No other way to say it.

Will need information from your trucks capacity chart, located in the driver door frame. It's a yellow sticker. Upload a picture of it is best.
Also if you know the GVW of the 5th Wheel.

You’ve gotten good info except the accepted correct order is to buy your chosen RV first and then buy the truck necessary to tow the beast. That way you don’t limit yourself, and more importantly, you’re keeping Momma happy.

Look at the yellow sticker on the drivers door jam for the cargo capacity. That number is critical to see if your truck is okay to tow this.

You need to give the information from the yellow/white sticker on your trucks driver door piller, look around it's there. PAYLOAD for your vehicle you own.
Thats what you and we need to make any informed replies along with Trailer Gross weight rating, (GVWR).
If you want to get it all done at once, add the axles weight ratings on your truck.

You've provided the dry weight for your trailer, but this isn't useful. You need to provide the GVWR, which should be on the sticker on the left-forward side of the trailer. If you don't have the trailer yet, you can estimate this by adding the dry weight to the cargo carrying capacity documented for the trailer.

From the GVWR of the trailer, we can then estimate the pin weight and from there, we can start seeing the impact this will have on your truck.

I think you're going to need a bigger truck, but I would like to see the actual numbers first.

From the Keystone site, it lists the cargo capacity of that trailer as 4259lb. Combined with the dry weight of 12742lb that comes out to a GVWR (estimated) of 17,001lbs

The pin weight alone should be estimated at between 20% and 25% o the GVWR. That gives you a range of 3,400lbs on the light side up to 4,250lbs on the heavy side.

This (along with a few other things) needs to come off of your truck's payload, which you said was 2,038. As you can see, you are way over the numbers here.

You're looking at a 1-ton dually truck at a minimum for that trailer.

Yeah it’s no fun but you definitely will be grossly overweight with your setup.. my trailer was 12500 approximately gvwr and I had the same payload and was completely overweight....many many people have found themselves on the wrong side of the weight calculation so don’t feel bad( myself included)

Your current truck is only good for the smallest lightweight fifth wheel and possibly not even that.. it’s really setup for a travel trailer with that payload....diesels eat up payload capacity vs gas trucks because the engine weighs 800 lbs more approximately

The dry weight of any rv & the max tow rating of any truck are totally useless numbers to calculate from to determine suitable matches.
The truck will typically be over the posted payload before it carries/tows that much rv. Those numbers were arrived at towing trailers that in no way compare to hauling RVs.
The dry weight of rvs was the weight it rolled out the factory door, no liquids, no batteries, no propane & will NEVER weigh that again.
Use the payload posted on YOUR truck & 23% of the GVWR posted on whatever rv you chose to give a pin weight & subtract the 2 numbers, what's left, if any, is what you can safely load into/onto your truck & still be within the payload limit. DO NOT use weights from brochures, literature & for sure NOTHING a salesman will spout.
With a toyhauler of that size & a pin weight of 3500-4000lbs you're at 1 ton dually truck, preferably diesel, minimum, way beyond any 3/4 & most SRW 1 tons.
Sorry to rain on your parade, but better safe than sorry!

There is no sense in my repeating what everyone else has already said....but I will - that trailer is WAY too much for your 2500.

Now, your original post seems to say you have the 18 2500. Hopefully by asking about the 358 you are just inquiring before purchase? You are where so many have been, and will be. If you haven't purchased the trailer at least you're in a position of assessing which way you want to go; take the specs of the new trailer and let them dictate a new tow vehicle or take the specs of the existing truck and let that dictate what kind of trailer you can have. It will be a travel trailer if you are looking for anything of any size. As has been said, a 3/4 ton diesel truck will have the payload of many 1/2 ton trucks so "going big" with an RV (and 17k gvw is big) isn't in the cards for that truck.

Last thing I will say ...airbags won’t fix this..I tried. And you WILL talk to people that will say you will be fine... DO NOT ever take any serious advise from those people..they don’t know what they are talking about and probably have made many bad decisions in there life

By the way, not just any 1-ton dually will work. My truck (as one example) would likely be overloaded with that trailer. Even with a 1-ton dually, you need to look at the numbers and make sure they are good.
