George, Dan gave you one solution if it is a single battery. If yours is a two or more battery system then simply disconnecting the ground from the battery is solution #2. The act of turning your red keyed battery switch to off will do nothing for you. Number three might be a solar charger mounted on the south side or roof of your RV for the winter will also work, but a little more expensive and convoluted.

I remove my battery when the RV is stored and keep it plugged in 24/7 to a battery maintainer. I have the previous version of this Noco Genius and have had zero issues with it.

Probably the most popular is the Battery Tender brand. I initially purchased one but it failed after a couple of weeks. Likely just one of those things, but I moved on to the Noco and so far so good.

Is it the ground or the positive you remove

Always remove the ground first to kill the circuit. That way if you want to remove the positive/battery and the wrench on the plus accidentally touches some metal there is no circuit and dead short.

thanks.
Be sure to check the water levels in each cell occasionally while on the maintainer, topping off with distilled water as needed.
Be sure to mark clearly which cable goes where when replacing the battery, their color choices of cables are sometimes confusing.
