New TV Recommendation
So it’s time for a ne TV. This is what it will be;
2021 Ram 3500 DRW, CC, LB, 4X4, HO AISIN, 4.10, 50 gal tank. (Laramie)
Black
Other options include;
Gooseneck bed prep
Cold weather prep
Laramie package 1
Night edition
5 passenger leather buckets
Bed liner
And a couple of other minor details.
My question is to those who drive and tow with these is the self leveling worth the $$. Does anyone have it on there’s? Does it work well? Is it totally “auto” or can one control it manually? I’m back and forth on adding it or not. I have bags on the current TV and I do like them.
We are planning on adding a large slide in in the future also. A little more flexibility for our adventures.
Thanks in advance!
Scott

It’s fully auto. You can’t raise it up or down manually but I like it. It has a alternate trailer height that lowers it 1” to level trailer. It’s supposed to be the best towing angle

If your ordering it definitely get the the cargo package that has the bed bumper step
I have the 12” display with the trailer surround camera system and I really like that as well

I have to order it, I can’t seem to find it in black with the right engine/trans/fuel tank/gear ratio. I’m sure more will pop up since the 21’s are finally hitting the lots. Or they’re just getting grabbed up quick.
Nice looking rig.

Sounds like a nice TV, just wondering about the 4.10’s? Do you plan on getting a larger heaver 5er? Yours has a GVWR of 12,260#, a set of 3.73’s will give you better fuel economy and plenty of grunt. Our 2016 has 25,214# of grunt, the 6.7 HO Aisin, is noticeably better than your 2005 5.9.

I should have waited a few months..Ram switched back to the cp3 injection pump. Much better. But I like mine it has every option you can get I believe or close to it....the Harmon kardon sound system is definitely worth it.

Rhagfo has a nice truck...if you order it might as well order the factory mudflaps. You will need them or something similar

The 50 gallon tank is by far the best option I think. I didn’t want to skip that

Nope gone back and forth on that as well. Thought the same thing however, this will be the last truck and DW is always looking at 5ers. I personally don’t want anything larger (the reason for the additional slide in) but DW’s comfort may someday make for a different decision. I don’t want to have to do this again .
My current TV has plenty of power to “pull”, I just figured I’d go big for the unlimited possibilities that may come up. We’ll be retiring in about 3 1/2 years and hitting it hard, so a bigger 5er?
I can’t say no.

I’ve had 4:10 on my last truck and this one .. my 2012 ram 6.7 srw 4x4 2500 was not good with fuel mileage but this one surprisingly is better

Since your rig is close to the size of mine what type of mileage do you get? My 2500 runs between 9-12.

What kind of mileage do you get? Worst case? Mine (2500) is 9 against a stiff wind or pulling up a good hill, 12 straight flat and level.

I think they all are goin to get around 10 towing a fifth wheel.
During normal driving I’m getting closer to 15 combined. My 2500 was closer to 12 .I’ve only had it a little over a month, haven’t taken the fifth wheel any distance yet.I will be goin away next month hopefully.I had the 68rfe trans in my 2500.I wonder if the internal transmission gears are a better combined ratio paired with the 4:10 with this new Aisin trans, it seems to run a few hundred rpms lower at cruise.

If I saw a truck that was exactly what I wanted but had the 3:73 instead of 4:10 ....I think I would have bought it anyway... I don’t think it’s a discernible difference unless you had maybe the biggest tow hauler and you towed exclusively in the mountains and had to start from the bottom at a dead stop. Mine just happen to have it. I would also pass on the lane guidance option /I don’t like it( safety group)

Thanks for the info and video! I will never tow the largest of 5ers and I agree about the difference. I have found a couple set up correctly however they are white.
Yeah I have no desire for a lot of the “gee wiz” stuff. Don’t need the big package 2. Can get buy without a sun roof. And 12 inch display. Just need power, payload, decent stereo and BLACK. I was even content with a Big Horn with cloth, but SHE wants the larger console for “stuff” so leather it is.
Quite frankly I’m really buying this to tow. Fuel mileage will take a back seat. It is what it is.
I am sold on the “auto leveling” though.
Thanks, Scott

As a side note, don’t think for a minute that going from a 4.10 to a 3.73 will result in savings at the fuel pump that is noticeable. Regretfully it just doesn’t seem to work proportionally. Go 4.10 if you can. And yes, everyone should own just one black vehicle in their life! One will be enough!

No as I stated, I’m looking for a TOW vehicle, wasn’t concerned about the mileage. Thought since it came up I’d test the waters....
I was really asking about the auto leveling.
Quite a few don’t enjoy the thought of keeping black clean however ...
In my current stable.
Thanks, Scott

If it’s financially viable I would hold onto that 5.9 truck also.
I had a 2005 5.9 slt 4x4 . Mine like yours have become collectible in just 15 years..
I sold mine in 2008..(bought a suv)tried to buy it back a couple months later because I missed it but the guy wanted to tack on several thousand dollars.I passed on principle. Ended up buying a new 2009 Hemi 2500 for work...then got my 2012...I still miss the 5.9.
I have a 2004 Hemi 1500 Hemi that used to be my sons..dropped a valve in it last summer. Haven’t got around to putting a new motor in it ,That’s our “beater” truck for around the house because NOBODY drives my personal truck lol. That’s my “ sure, take my truck “ truck for going to Home Depot
