Texarkana and Hot Springs
Hi folks. I am traveling through Texarkana, Texas and onto Hot Springs, Arkansas. Any recommendations for parks at these two locations? I'm in a 30-foot fifth wheel. Thanks, Jeff

Our travels frequently take us through Texarkana. Our preferred stop there is Shady Pines RV Park on Hwy 67 west of Texarkana. The owners also have a RV dealership and shop next door if you need something. We have never had a problem there. Everything is concrete and level. There are some full timers there but they seem to be reasonably neat. We have only used it for a 1 night stopover.

I have used the COE park south of Texarkana on Wright Patman Lake, but only with my cabover camper. From memory I don't want to go there with the 5th. My memory could fail me though.
For Hot Springs I would check out Lake Catherine State Park, but it's been years for us staying there. Last year we stayed at Catherines Landing Rv Park one night, I wasn't impressed. Be very careful how Google routes you north of Hot Springs. We found ourselves on a 1 lane gravel road with a washed out bridge. I had to go to 4 wheel drive low through standing water.
There are lots of COE campgrounds in Arkansas. But many don't open until May and some are small and don't take reservations.
I highly recommend "RV CAMPING IN CORPS OF ENGINEER PARKS" by Roundabout Publications. I got mine from Amazon.

As far as North of there.. It's been too many years for me to recommend a specific campground but we always enjoyed Lake Broken Bow in Oklahoma and Lake DeGray in Arkansas.
Been planning on heading back up there sometime soon.. we really like both of those lakes..

A few years ago we spent a week at Lake Catherine State Park in Hot Springs. Nice big, concrete pads. A lot of nice hiking trails and things to see.

I have the COE roundabout book with 600 camp grounds and 200 lake . With the book and google earth I can easily pick my water front site . I will be making 3 COE reservations in Texas and 2 in Arkansas close to Texarkana. Where looking at staying in each park minimum of 4 nights. Java Oklahoma reservoirs are a great experience.

Rv campground reviews.com, put in where you're headed, it'll list all in the area with reviews & a direct link to their websites.
Just read it objectively, some folks just can't be pleased.
Examples, "gave them 1 star as they don't supply dog poop bags on their walking trail", DUH! if you have dog bring your own bag.
"…Gave them 1 star cause their FREE wifi was too weak the stream movies"

Thanks for all the great tips! It seems parks are getting booked up, maybe because of the holidays. I like to stay at state parks and tried Caddo Lake State Park, but there is only a day here and a day there for the last week of December. I'll keep trying though. Something will pop up. Again, thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Beavers Bend state park is pretty good. I've only been there in the cabover so size of the sites was no concern. Good trout fishing.

We stayed at Gulpha Gorge campground there in 2017. Can't remember much but it was $45.00 for 3 days. Water and Electric.
