RV Carport Ideas, Please
When we traded in our 23' Nash TT for a 30' Cougar 5er (a little over 12' high), we knew our RV carport would not even begin to hold the Cougar. Now that we are nearing the end of Summer, it's time to build a shelter.
We have a rough idea of what we want - a tall bay for the RV with a shorter side bay for the TV (an F-350 CC LB, 22' long which is also our ranch rig). Since we have our own trees and a portable sawmill, the carport will most likely be wood frame construction. I am meeting with a friend who does construction design in a few days. Wondering if those of you fortunate enough to have your own RV storage might share some tips and photos.
Thanks

This is the carport I built to hold our Cougar. It is about 34' by 16' so I can open the slides. It keeps it dry. I have since covered the East side to protect from the elements.

Very nice looking stick built RVport.
I just priced the metal ones here in NC.
the regular style 16X40X11 and one side covered to protect against the elements was 2673.00+tax.
The A frame vertical roof style 14guage same dimensions was 3415.00+tax. My wife wants the A-frame and I think it would look better also.
We'll see getting ready to take the youngest to College this weekend.... IF I do this, I need to do it before winter. this will be the 4th winter it has sat out and I want it covered. Just when I think I can get it something happens to my funds.
BUT that stick built one is very nice...

Thanks for the great photos Your carport is exactly what we have in mind, with the addition of a shed roof side bay (curb side for the pickup. Do you know the height and the roof pitch of yours?
We were thinking of using trusses for the roof, but it appears your structure is framed differently. Our dimensions are approximately 35' x 15' allowing for the steps and door swing to open a bit into the pickup bay, if needed. Can't go much wider in the space we have and how the driveway is situated. Is the 34' length sufficient for your 292? Our 279RKS is 32' from the back of the spare tire to the end of the hitch. We need to leave a bit of space to get in behind as the carport will be up against a fence in the back and on the driver's side.
Your photos have been very helpful. Thanks, again.

I went out and remeasured it and it is actually 32' x 16' so our 292 sticks out about 2 feet with the spare tire on the back. It has 14' clearance inside, the Cougar is 12' to the top of A/C and the roof has a 4 - 12 pitch. They are manufactured trusses on 6" x 8" treated Posts. It works great to protect it from the elements.

soon to be a shop, but for permit reasons, it is a "carport" 40x48.

We start building retirement house next Aug. in Yakima, Wa. Built into the plan is a 50 X 16 RV garage, with heated floor, insulated, water and sewer hookup. Door is 12W X 14H. Everthing in the neighborhood has to be kept "inside", but with snow and cold weather, it is best to kept covered, not to mention out of the sun when not used. I will be living in it while doing my part of construction.
