Water tank issue

We have a 2007 laredo. The hot water tank is still filling with water and heating up ....however, the water isn't coming out of the faucet. The hot water faucet has nothing, and if we turn on the cold water faucet, HOT comes out for about 30-60 seconds in a sputtering fashion, then it runs cold again. The bypass valve is in the right position. Any ideas what we could be dealing with ? Thanks for any info.

Welcome to the forum

Your check valve at the back of the tank might be failing. It is usually plastic and it screwed in at the TOP of the tank where the water exits. Let the tank cool off, and then you can remove the valve and take a look. Ihave been able to clean them, but they are cheap enough to just replace if it is bad.

Would also suggest that the air must be purged out of the hot water lines if they have been drained. Start with only one hot water tap open and it takes awhile for the air to purge. Make sure you purge the tank itself you cracking open the relief and let some was run out.

This is the check valve needed to replace the failed check valve.

Is this one hot water faucet, or all hot water faucets -- kitchen, bath, outside shower?

Are you on shore water or internal tanks?

(Why do I ask this? My last trip was an Arizona campground... it was so hot there that the campground water ran hot! To get cold water, we turned our water heater off, then used the faucets in reverse!)

We have ordered the check valve. It appears that we will have to take the entire tank out of its setting to reach that valve....since the part isn't here yet, we didn't try taking the hot water tank out. Is this complicated, or an easy process. I'm very handy, but also willing to let the pros do the job when its merited . Thanks
