You have to start out with defining "basic camping needs:. To one person that may mean a pair of sneakers and a pair of hiking shoes. To another, that may mean 6 pairs of shoes, 3 pairs of boots and 4 pairs of sandals.
After defining "basic needs" you must consider how long you will be away from either your house or a storage unit where you can "swap out" the stuff not being used for those things that will be used, i.e. you don't need heavy blankets and winter gloves in the summer months at most locations, nor shorts, sandals and swimwear in the winter.
