How to keep critters out of heat exhaust pipe

Question - how do you keep critters (mice and chipmunks) out of the Suburban furnace heat exhaust pipe?

We found lots of seeds & acorns in the heater in the spring. Its taken all summer to get the family of mice out of our 2014 Alpine and I don't want anyone else to move in over the winter, if you know what I mean.

Can we add a screen behind the outside plate or should we just stuff steel wool in the pipe when we close up for the season, and perhaps put a piece of duct tape over the outside too. We don't use the RV in the winter, but do put a cover over it for the brutal Minnesota winter..

Any advice is most appreciated.

Thx.

Add an insect screen such as this. They make them in all of the common shapes and sizes for RVs.

I put screens on all of my vents/exhausts. I'd like to put it on the AC too. I've heard you can add stainless steel Hardware Cloth to the inside of that cover but I've not tried it yet.
