Our first "dry camping".....

We pulled into Placid Lake in Montana and had a great trip until I started to fill the fresh water tank. Pulled to the spigot at the campground, unlocked the hatch, hooked up the water and turned it on.. As the water was filling the tank it was running out the drain just as fast. I thought the (suddenly forgot the name) valve was open . Climbed under to find no valve but a low point drain and NO CAP. We had never used it before and I ASSUMED that it had a petcock (I just remembered the name).... I am not sure if I should be upset with myself or at the manufacturer /dealer.... On his way to camp with us our Son in Law will stop at a dealer in Helena to get us a cap..
So we will have water tomorrow. Thank goodness.

I lost the cap on mine when winterizing a few years back and got a push-on type ball valve instead at Lowe's. It's worked fine ever since and it's certainly nice to only have to move the handle a quarter turn to open or close the thing.

Many times the factory will store the fresh water drain cap in the water heater. Open your water heater door (outside) and look along the burner tube on the ledge behind the door. You may find it "stored" there. Otherwise, like Walt said, any hardware store or building supply store will have a replacement. Costs less than $5.

You might want to do a good "PDI" on your trailer. Chances are that if the selling dealer didn't install the cap on the fresh water tank, he also didn't do a check of the fresh water pump, and if he didn't do that, I'd question "what else" did he not check ????

Anyway, don't let a "missing cap" spoil your vacation, enjoy your new RV....

If you have never filled/used the fresh water tank, I would sanitize the tank before using the water from it.
