Stink Bugs & Control Boards
2014 Alpine 3555RL. Had my front air conditioner start acting up yesterday. Fan would come on then a few seconds later compressor would start as usual. A few seconds later compressor would shut down and then the fan would shut down. It did this a couple times before I noticed what it was doing. Went to the thermostat to check temperature in zone 2, front air conditioner, it read 44 degrees. Actual temperature was closer to 70. I checked the zone 2 sensor and it seemed to be ok. I then shut down both units and cleaned the filters which I had been neglecting. Restarted zone 2 air conditioner and it continued to run normally. I then restarted zone 1 air conditioner and it ran normally. Zone 2 shut down after reaching set temperature. Zone 1 shut down normally and restarted normally when thermostat called for air. Zone 2 would not restart properly. It did as it was doing before. Fan on, compressor on, few seconds later compressor off and then fan off. Zone 2 temperature again read in the 40's. I figured it must be the control board in the zone 2 air conditioner. This morning I go up top to find the number on the control board. Open everything up and find stink bugs on the back of the control board. They are walking around on all the little solder joints with their backs against the metal housing. Apparently they were screwing up the electrical circuits as all seems to be well now that they have been evicted.
We are still in Florida waiting for the weather to clear before heading home and need both air conditioners when the sun is out all day long. Stink bugs have been a real problem this winter. We catch a few every night
