Backup Camera

Has anyone had success or tried to wire a backup camera from the 5'er to the factory camera in the truck

I don't think you would ever be able to wire the factory camera to an aftermarket deal.

The factory camera runs through the radio bus on the trucks and I would not recommend trying to cut into or tap into that system. There is not a completely different camera module or anything I don't think. I know on the Dodges if you have a camera problem you replace the radio module.

Basically no separate system to just tap into and make it work.

Rv back up cameras on trailers are generally powered by a clearance light and are wireless. To do what your asking would require a video feed ran from the top of the rear of the trailer to the tow vehicle.

All the wireless systems I have seen have a very clear picture.

If you have the Ford Nav system with the built in video you would need to pull the radio out to see if there are any auxiliary video inputs and find a camera that would support those connections. If you have the rear view mirror system, there may be connections under the head liner that you could "Y" into with an electronic controller.

If you have the nav system it will probably be a very difficult/near impossible mod, so the easiest way would probably be to buy a rear view system with a replacement mirror and install that "stand alone" system to monitor behind the trailer with the mirror while monitoring behind the truck with the factory system.

There is a Rear View Safety system that mounts on (or replaces) the mirror and has an A/B switch to support 2 cameras, but it won't tie into the factory nav or mirror video system. You'd need to buy 2 cameras and replace the factory mirror system with the RVS one and then add the trailer camera.

I'd think it would be simpler and avoid any factory warranty issues by just adding another complete system rather than modify the existing Ford video.

Do a search for sync lockpic... I have not looked at it in a while, it's expensive, but it might be a piece of the puzzle for this. As I recall when I looked a few years ago, it could do 2 cameras.
