Electric tow dolly by GM

I’m not sure what to say about this other than oh crap, just what we don’t need out on the roads - or in the campgrounds…

So my Prius will be able to tow the Landmark 365 I’m looking at?

At least with a Prius you can have great vision backing up in a parking slip at the campground as the rear window will be the same height as that contraption. Might take some practice. How will this contraption effect tow ratings? Hmmm... going to have to ask an RV salesman!

At least they didn't have to worry about backing up. Tracks kept them straight. Who in the heck can back that thing up properly nowadays. As a kid growing up on the farm, we had to learn to "try" and back up the 4 wheel independent steering farm wagons. That was a serious trick. This looks wayyyy worse.

Just what we need on the highways, a Prius pulling a 16k trailer and a 2k "attachment" then trying to stop....I can envision lots of things, none of them good.

copy and paste from the article: "Drive whatever you like, and when the time comes to tow that 4,000-pound camper, just hook it up to your compact SUV and go". My question is: what size is a 4,000 pound camper?

well got to love the pictures and the statement "hook up a 4,000# trailer" well the trailers in the drawings would likely be well, well above 4,000#! I also love the trailer in the two pictures is the same with the exception of the line to make a 5th wheel into a TT.

This contraption is not new, the electric controls & capabilities might be.
Somewhere out there in the cyber world, jasin can probably find it, of a F350/450 with a boat on it's trailer in the back up over the cab of the truck with this type of doodad behind with a good sized 5er hooked to it & a trailer with some other toy/s or other stuff hooked up behind the 5er. The fellow had everything he owned or needed in 1 VERY VERY long load.

Looking at that picture of the big 5th wheel maybe they're talking pin weight??

These have been around since the 1940's in one form or another. Some are 2 wheeled and some are 4 wheeled.

https://www.theoutdoorhacker.com/wha...xpert-explain/

If you've ever watched the old movie "The Long Long Trailer" with Lucy Ball and Desi Arnaz, you will see they have one of these under the trailer A-frame to help reduce the weight on the car hitch.

The concept is not new. They are just re-inventing an old wheel.

The problem is, some states consider this "double towing" and thet's why it's not popular.

The only difference with this one is the electric assist drive. So, they can just hook their Montana fifth wheel up to their little hamster mobile, and away they go. Over the mountains and through the woods in a stiff wind to grandma’s house….

"XYZ Campground, how can I help you?"
"I need 3 adjacent 50 Amp sites for the 4 th of July weekend. "
"What are the names and size campers of the other parties?"
"No other parties, just me. Need 1 site for camper, one for my Prius, and one for my electric trolly in-between the two."
"Damned kids, stop making prank calls!' ....CLICK........

They will probably advertise “Circular charging”…The car wheels moving charges the camper that in turn charges the dolly which …you guessed it …Charges the car!…drive indefinitely!…( sorta like using an onboard inverter and batteries to power the converter that charges the batteries)

Perpetual motion machine? Not possible, but if you have a "suitcase nuclear reactor" like NASA uses or a Doc Brown "Mr Fusion" you could possible go a long way before charging!
