interesting info that popped up on password vulnerability…not sure how accurate it is but does make me reevaluate how i come up with passwords

Interesting. I think I'm going to change mine so they can't be hacked for 26tn years...I should be gone by then and it won't matter.....

If you’ve ever watched the show Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller, she did one on hackers. Very eye opening

Our Corporate IT department requires passwords at least 12 characters long with a mix of lowercase, uppercase, non-sequential, non-repeating numbers and symbols (I use character replacement to help). I used to think it was a PITA to come up with a new password every 12 weeks, but at least now I understand why they require it. However, if it would take 226 years to hack my pa$$word, why do they make me change it every 3 months…….

Funny thing is I just finished talking to the head of our bank IT department (large chain) and gave him my thoughts (an earful ) on constantly having to change passwords if the browser changed, changed from laptop to desktop to smartphone etc. He asked what my password was to access their bank and I told him it was not repeatable as it was made during a very unhappy moment dreaming up a password that would work. Did that about a month ago and he has been very proactive staying in touch with me but maybe I'll cut him some slack. Thanks for sharing because it did make me think.

Until you've been hit with ransomeware and it nearly takes your livelihood away - you'll never FULLY understand how a truly good and strong password along with two-factor Authentication is required in today's world. And that's only the beginning.

I'm involved with a company that was attacked by ransomeware. We thought we had things under control and safe in IT. This hurt the company not only financially, but it's a major safety issue to our customers as we have information relating to their product(s). We are not only AS-9100, but ITAR and ISO. We had a lot to lose with this and we had to answer to some very high level heads in the US government as to how in the hell this happened.

What is now in place (and monitored by an outside third party security company) are systems and services you never knew existed.

Every user's password is now generated by a random password generator at 12 characters in length, changed every 30-60-90 days depending. Spreadsheets password protected? HA! That's no safer than the old glass gumball machine at the five and dime.

I thought it was over... for good. That was it, close the doors, pack your stuff and go home. Luckily the company was solid enough to weather this major attack and stay on its feet and fight. Fight we did and fight we still do to this day.

For the bad actors out there in other countries and this one that do this - I have words for you that would shake down the biggest mens locker room and put it to shame.

I agree, I don't think there's any way to keep an electronic device/electronic access portal or anything of that nature hack proof.

We were in Florida last month and my wife gets a email saying “your new ipad pro and iphone 14 pro” will be delivered tomorrow by 5 pm…( she didn’t order anything)or something along those lines…i was panicking because i envisioned someone was watching our movements and knew we wouldn’t be home..or why would they deliver to my house? they must have known we were on vacation. My daughter was stopping over our house for mail and i was worried she would end up face to face with a thief.
Called Verizon immediately and cancelled the order and they told her most likely the My Verizon App was hacked …had to change everything in the account and it’s been a headache.
They said more then likely it was a coincidence that we were away and the thief probably didn’t know and was eventually going to change the delivery address

This all happened after normal business hours and thankfully someone was available to handle it on their after hours customer service line
