Camco Rhino FLEX RV Sewer Hose Kit. No FIT!

Hello All,



The previous owner had bought a starter kit which included a
Camco Rhino FLEX RV Sewer Hose Kit. (2) piece.

But of course, when I tried to put 1 in the rear bumper box, because I did not require (2) to connect, It would NOT go all the way in. ummm...


Well come to find out there are 2 braces about 28" in from each end from underneath, I suppose for support and well as the picture suggests, I am short. The bolts are through the bumper box.


Has anyone had this problem? Circa 2017, what sewer hose would have come with the unit that would not interfere with those bolts? The supports look to be OEM so I do not suspect it was an alteration.



Does anyone have an idea?

Sewer hoses don't come with any RV.
That is something that some RV dealers might give you in a "starter kit".
But not all do.

That Rhino hose you have is probably one of the most popular.
Are you sure the hose is completely collapsed?
If not, the way to get it to collapse all the way is to take one of the caps off so the air can escape as it collapses. Then when fully collapsed, put the cap back on.

Also, quite a few people don't even use that "square" bumper for the hose.
There are several better options for storing that hose.

On my previous travel trailer, I added the Valterra hose holder.
Our current 5th wheel came with it from the factory.

Thank you for the reply, but indeed it is as short as I can possibly make it without "alterations"...


I am surprised by the comment that they do not come with sewer hoses as "standard equipment", but then again, should I be surprised? I am a realist, but at 65 years of age, I am dismayed, to say the least, of some of these manufactures thinking..or let us say, lack thereof.



I suppose I will take a look at the connections on the ends and see if it is a reasonable alternative to "make adjustments" as to the length. (2) came with the kit and if I have to shave off 5" from each, life should be so bad.

The square hose bumper are usually smaller than they should be.
The Rhino hose goes in but then hangs on the lugs, right?

File or cut them down.

I would still get a sewer hose tube snd mount underneath. Extra sewer hose length is always a smart move when traveling far from home.

I have already purchased the
Valterra A04-5094BK RV Adjustable EZ Hose Carrier with Lockable Door Cap, Black

Also have a rear tire mount with U brackets. I am hoping that based upon the picture that the end supports,where I assume you attach to the bumper and seem lower than the body of the tube will clear the U Brackets.



It is still in the box, other things in the way, but also almost afraid to open it..LOL

Would not even mount to the existing bumper (part of bumper is under the trailer).



Looked underneath and while there is ONE place I could put brackets across.


Going to have to an L bracket to bring it down some in order to clear the ridged water hose to bathroom.


Just do NOT want to add any LOWER to the undercarriage.

None of the RV’s I have ever bought came with a sewer hose, but a few have come with a starter kit from the dealer. My current trailer doesn’t have a rear bumper so there is a 2 ft Valtera tube mounted to the frame. It can fit a standard Camco sewer hose. This one hose works for us probably 90% of the time. To completely meet our needs, I added a 4 ft Valtera tube on the rear frame of the trailer and keep a Camco Rhino hose there.

A big issue with using the rear bumper storage is that the inside is rusty and after a few times sliding the hose in and out, the rough interior tends to wear holes in the hose leading to really inconvenient leaks when the sewer hose is in use.

Since the spare tire is already mounted to the box, might as well add something else.



Did your carrier come so that it needs a hitch or just bolted, as my spare tire to the box?

I would NOT mount the hose carrier to that bumper box.
The carrier will come with all hardware and mounting brackets so you can mount it to the frame of the trailer.

See how in this picture, it it mounted with bolts up through the "I" beam frame.
Exactly where you mount it under the trailer is your choice.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a 5' vinyl fence post and a couple caps and make your own. the post is 8' long and will hold both hoses, and necessary ends.

I already ordered the one (that was mentioned in previous post) that is long enough. Since I have a spare tire I was kinda wondering how I would "Marry" the 2 together but as had been mentioned, I could mount it just about anywhere.



Thinking about the elbow on the sewer hose and the fact that I bought a clean out hose and coupler, I will have to do some measuring to see if that post will fit all.

I used a 6" vinyl fence post cover and then made a "tray" for inside it out of a 5" vinyl gutter. The gutter sides into the post cover and eliminates the need to stick your arm "up to the shoulder" inside the dirty fence post cover to get to the "second hose inside"... Just lay the hoses in the gutter, slide it into the post cover, put the cover on and tow. When you need to use a sewer hose, remove the end cover, pull out the tray and take the hose off the tray. Simple and effective....

An "added plus" is you can use the gutter as a "sewer hose support" when camping. Just lay your hose in the gutter and it will "slope down to the sewer outlet at the campground"...

I've never been a fan of the chunky Camco and Valterra bayonet fittings, plus their attachments (like the clear sewer-end connectors) are made of materials that seem unduly crackable. I've always used the Prest-O-Fit "blue line" connectors [LINK] -- they have extremely slim profiles, and are a slightly "waxier" plastic that just slip onto each other. In particular, their quick-connector couplers are a dream to use when you need to add hose.

Other than the screw on the hose clamp connectors I use to fasten them onto the hoses, which always slide smoothly down an upper corner of the bumper, there are no extrusions beyond the hose's own diameter. The clear elbow -- the one bayonet fitting I need to connect to the RV, which isn't a Prest-O-Fit -- follows last into the bumper end, where there are never any bolts or other impediments.

Prest-O-Fit isn't as popular a system, but I've been using it going on 25 years and like it a lot.

How do you keep the cap on so it doesn’t fall off going down the road?

I put the cap on the tube, then drilled two 1/8" holes, one on each side through the cap and the tube, then bent a 8" piece of wire from a coat hanger into a "C" shape with a tab on each end. I drilled the holes so one side is about an inch higher, so I can tell the top of the cap. All I have to do is look at the highest hole and that goes on the left side of the tube. Just open the coat hanger a bit, slip a tab in each hole, the "spring action of the coat hanger" will hold it in place. Haven't lost a cap in 10 years... Actually, I did the same thing on my square bumper rubber caps and haven't lost one of those in over 40 years.

You can see the holes in this closeup of the tube. With the cap on the tube when you drill the holes, they are "guaranteed to line up properly"...

ADDED: Make sure you keep the holes "above the center of the tube" so the wire tabs won't interfere with the gutter and cause it to bind as you pull it out or push it into the tube.

You can also simply attach a round 6 inch PVC pipe with end caps and strap it to the top of the bumper. No drilling, no attachments, just a couple zip ties or bungie cords to hold it on.

Then use the metal bumper for hauling metal poles, fire pokers, BBQ sticks, or anything else made of metal and has pointed ends.

I've been using the PVC piping since we had our first pop-up camper.

You can see it clearly here on our first pop-up. I've used this same tube on every camper we've had, including our current fifth wheel. (although it is not on the bumper now, as my current fifth wheel does not have a "bumper" at all).
