The best thing about them is the off switch but I have only used it two times in eight years in this TV to get around accidents. So I guess I'll keep it. Keep the shiny side up, Hank

Nope. Chucked mine several years ago. CB is a vast wasteland and I'll have no part of it.

We have some of the FRS half watt handhelds for chit chat between the vehicles when we travel (I pull the trailer while she hauls the boat.)

I also have a GMRS license so I have a mobile in the truck plus a handheld for that.

Between the FRS and GMRS, I can get quite a bit of highway updates by listening in while traveling in urban areas. Not much chatter on GMRS once you get away from the heavily populated areas.

CB radios

Well, they didn't call them the Children's Band for nothing. In the end they just became chatter boxes with no real purpose other than passing time --- sort of like kids texting today.

IMHO,
John

Yep, I keep mine on with the squelch cranked...been useful for working with the big trucks to negotiate on-ramps and listening for traffic conditions on the local interstates. You'll almost always get a few miles notice of an accident or a phantom traffic jam before running up on it blind. The Buckeye can be challenging since most of my fellow drivers aren't the most courteous or attentive to larger trucks/RVs/etc especially through Columbus or Cincinnati. I rarely talk on it...mostly for information only.

Sure do. We usually travel with one or more couples and the CB's make communicating easy for those times someone needs to make a quick exit off the highway or pointing out something interesting.

in tight spaces with the trailer... oh, well

We keep a CB in the truck as it is the primary communication tool on group off-road trail runs. However, I must admit that there have been enough times that it has been useful in problematic traffic situations to warrant having it available. Especially as we crawl across I94 between Michigan City and Chicago. I actually can't remember a time in the last 40 years that that section of road wasn't under construction or tied up with an accident.

jeffS, Howdy;

Sort of like trying to get thru Hartford, Ct. on I-95. I'm thinkin' the third Generation of workers is getting close to retirement on that one 10 or 15 mile strech...

I use CB for off-road runs with friends. It has much better range than FRS.

Have one don't use much too much fowl mouth. Will tune in around the bigger cities. Most police monitor CB so I see one I usually can get him if I need to report stupid drivers
