2022 Keystone 22MLS Slide out override

At the moment my slide out works fine but in case it fails in the future, could somebody give me the procedure to manually retract the slide with the drill bit attachment that came with the trailer, just in case the In-Command override doesn't work? I don't see how I can insert the tool into the motor with the slide open because of the wooden top plate that runs the length of the slide restricts the amount of room I have to work on it. Maybe if there was an easy way to remove the top plate, that would work.

Thank You,

You can remove the top facia. The top “layer” is brad nailed on, the board underneath that is screwed into the slide frame, usually large Phillips head.

There are lots of us out here with the same question/ concern. A complete explanation with pictures would be super helpful.

If you look real close at the decorative wood, you’ll find some small brad holes filled with putty. Pry the wood off and you’ll see the heavy board and large screw heads. Take the screws out and lift off.

The decorative wood may be 3 pieces with a center piece, if so use tape to mark the edges.

Operating slide manually

hello.
We just watched your video on the cables for the slide which was very informative and thank you so much for that.
Could you add to that how to bring the slide in manually?
We have a 2021 Keystone Cougar 26rbs.

Also - our trailer is 8 months old. We returned from a trip and found the center trim piece and both facia sides sprung out. How should I repair this?

Thank you,
Chip and Carla

In your packet that come with the camper you should have a flexible shaft approximately 12 to 18 inches long. One end of the flexible cable inserts into the end of the motor that normally extends or retracts the slide. I would use a drill motor to turn the flexible shaft. You could also turn it with a socket and ratchet handle but this would take longer and more effect on your part. Most on the forum would recommend brad nails (small heads) to repair the trim and facia but I prefer to use screws just in case I have to remove it for some reason. If only zinc screws are available then color the visible head with a magic marker that is close to the color of the trim.

Hope this helps

Post 2021 Keystone Cougar 26rbs - Facia on Slide Out

Hello JW!

Thank you for the great info. This forum is soooo helpful!
We are going to rewatch the first part of your video...still unsure where the flexible shaft inserts into the motor.

Have a great day!

I have never had to use the flexible shaft to extend or retract the slide and hope that I never have to use it. But it is my understanding that the shaft inserts into the bell housing of the motor on the opposite side of the gear box.

I had the same questions as you when I got my camper. Finding the information I wanted was not easy. You are right about the forum. Some real knowledgeable people on here who have answered every question that I have asked.

Manually retracting the slides was something I asked for a demonstration on during my PDI. Something to keep in mind for future purchases as each of the different slide mechanisms will be different. I don’t have cable slides but I know the tool does into the motor shaft. The motor is mounted to a gearbox so only the opposite end of the motor shaft is accessible.

Manually operating the bedroom slide in our trailer is "pretty straight forward" as long as you can get your arm and a battery drill driver behind the fascia. The slide is 65" wide, so there's no need to remove the fascia if your arms are long enough.

Our "in frame ram electric slide" in the main cabin requires a "cutout in the coroplast under the trailer" to access the emergency motor drive fitting. On our Springdale, there was a hole in the frame rail that allowed access without having to go under the trailer. But, the "tricky part" was trying to put a 3/8" extension through that hole in the frame and lining it up with the motor attachment hole that was a foot or more inside that dark/can't see anything in there" cavity... For me, it was easier to cut a small hole in the coroplast so I could put the extension through the frame hole and then use my fingers to guide it to the fitting that I could see through my new cutout in the belly cover...

I don't recall seeing a "full depth cable slide" that could be manually moved without taking off at least a part of the fascia to get to the motor. On some "shallower kitchen/entertainment slides" you can reach over the fascia and touch the motor. Not so on a 42" slide depth, unless you have "Orangutan arms" ....
