camper length
Where are the Manufacturers getting their measurements? My Keystone 422 Chrome specs say 43.3'. I measured it today from tail to tip at 45' . specs say 13.6' hight. I measured at 12.3. As far as the hight goes, I presume they measured with the a/c which would make sense, but the length doesn't compute with me lol. Some campgrounds ask the length of my rig, and I don't know if I should tell them the official length or the actual. Makes a difference as to what sites you can get.

I would tell them the actual length. Only thing is around me the state parks and such seem to advertise their sites minus about 5 feet. My trailer is 43.5 feet. I fit in all the 40 foot spots that I have ever tried.

I always give max length, I want all the space I can get but usually ask for a pull through. Advertised lengths? Don't really know. Last trailer I started paying attention (TT) and it was very close by measuring back of bumper to ball. This one is fairly close but I never give it much thought, I just make sure I get a "long" site.

I thought it was from the pin to the back but it seems that they use actuall usable floor length…maybe? This is for TT butI guess fifth wheels are the same

I read somewhere on the Keystone website that their "length specification" is measured "from the center of the kingpin to the furthest part of the rear of the trailer". Some have a bumper, some don't and the "furthest rear point" is the tail light lenses.
As for the front "starting point", some kingpins are the furthest forward point on the trailer and some kingpins sit a foot or even further, behind the "most forward part of the front cap"... So, if Keystone is measuring "center of the kingpin to the rear tail light lens" and you're measuring from the "forward edge of the front cap to the handle on the rear ramp door" there may be a significant difference in the two measurements.
As for "which to report to a campground".... I'd use the actual length of the trailer, and if it's a pull through, I'd use the actual measured length of the rig. Nothing worse than "reporting a brochure spec and then trying to park a 43' trailer and truck (61' total) in a 45' space.... Key, IMO, is to explain what you want to the campground and let them deal with which site best fits what you tell them.

I think when it comes to campgrounds, using the true length of the camper is always best. That length would be from tip to tip.

Center of the king pin to the rearmost part of the trailer. Mine is 42' 4" but about 18" of the camper extends forward of the king pin. Total length tip to tip comes in makes it come in at just a tad under 44'. I round it off if a campground wants to know, at 45'.
