Microair. After buying it, using it and finding how MUCH better it is than the Dometic CT thermostat I would pay double what I did....no more ghost changes and every other weird thing that thermostat does.

I just did a quick Google on Microair and see $200+!! Really a $200+ thermostat in an RV? I have a digital Hunter and it works great and keeps a very even heat for about $30.

I don't know what kind of AC system you have but per Dometic the Dometic CT thermostat can be replaced with only a Dometic CT or the Microair unless you want to change out the controller in the AC unit and everything else.

As far as the Microair cost, it's worth every penny IMO. Do you have the digital 42999b Hunter? If so it doesn't do many of the things a Microair will do including run the heat pump. As in so many things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

Well I have a simple A/C unit, no heat pump or heat strip. Heat pumps start loosing efficiency below 40 degrees. I have never believed in heat from above, cooling above, heat below. We camp where temps dip below freezing, and have an electric add on unit on my gas furnace. This way I electrically heat my basement below freezing.

And what would all that have to do with what I have, how I use my equipment and what is paid for a thermostat to meet those needs??

I just bought a Microair around Thanksgiving when they had a great sale. It will replace my Dometic CT thermostat that always seemed to have a mind of it’s own. I like the web-connected feature that lets me monitor and adjust the AC or heat temperature when we are away from the camper and the dogs are there alone.

I guess we are living the redneck life.
We have a dometic 38453 manual and I have trouble reading the thermometer to tell what the temp is.
We have a couple of quartz electric heaters and I have to pay for propane but electric is included in out site rental.... I don't think we have ever used the furnace.

Looks like a great thermostat although a bit pricey.. Is that the only option? $100 sounds better to me.

You have the manual analog thermostat. I would have rather had that than the digital Dometic CT. Straightforward and simple vs ghostly, unasked for changes whenever the thermostat felt like it

The Microair IS a great thermostat with a lot more functionalities than the OE CT unit. It is pricey but as I had gone through 4 of the CT thermostats with a 5th as a spare the price became inconsequential when comparing about $43 for each of the CT units (I did get one free warranty replacement from Dometic).

As far as other options there are none as told to me by Dometic unless you wanted to remove the thermostat and all the associated equipment in the A/C unit which could also include rewiring depending on what kind of control leads a new one used. With those considerations just dropping in the Microair with the increased functionality and reliability seemed to be the right choice for me.

Well Microair it is then... you have Microair stock? You sold it well!

No, I don't have Microair stock (at least my financial guy hasn't mentioned it ). I am impressed with their quality and support. When I first got mine their support team worked with me after hours and on the weekend - always answered the phone and took great care of me. I like that in these days of getting the exact opposite everywhere else.

We have a Dometic Duo Therm analog thermostat that keeps accurate temps; both cool and warm and if were to fail, would take 5 minutes to replace at under $40. I know it would be great to blue tooth and in command and such but I like manual and simple. That's because I am manual and simple I guess. If we leave the pups in the camper when we go out in warmer temps, we just set and forget at about 70F. If gone for a long time, we wouldn't leave them in the camper I guess in the event power went out or similar.

I was a little hesitant at first, as well, when I first saw the price. Then they had a nice sale and I bit the bullet. It has functionality I haven't explored yet. I do like being able to turn on the heat from my phone before I get out of bed though.

I had problems with mine getting it connected to wifi/internet. It wouldn't do any updates. I finally called to get their help and as Danny said, they were very accommodating. They stuck with me until it was online and the updates were completed.

It is pricey. It's also a great upgrade from the OEM. Their customer service is quite good. Their EasyStart system is also worth the price...especially if you are connected to 30a service and want to run 2 AC's. Good company, good products.

I am not familiar with that thermostat but most talk to a board in the lower part of the A/C. I suspect it needs to be compatible so just any thermostat probably won't work. Explaining what A/C (or A/Cs) you have (make and model) would help and if you are using In-Command or similar. You might also explain what "sucks rocks" means with an actual description of performance or lack thereof.

It's a GE A/C unit which I imagine is why there's a GE thermostat. The thermostat has a wide and varied hysteresis with the heater, varies 2-4 degrees. At random times it runs the heater way longer than necessary. This morning was set at 62 and after a heat cycle the desk clock/temp readout was 64. This is mostly a winter problem I think, did not notice this issue in the summer.

Considering a Coleman 83303862 Digital Thermostat. Have to take the existing apart and see how it's wired. I'm thinking is all 12v controls. Heater runs on the battery, which surprised me a bit. Need to RTFM on that heater.

This same thermostat is being discussed in the "need contact info" thread.
