I don’t scale my big tractor and trailer. It’s permanent oversize load and as long as my sticker is up to date they leave me alone

My personal truck is a mystery

All we need now is the sticker from the side of your trailer.

Where is that usually on the trailer. So much weather has abused this trailer it might be missing

You generally estimate your pin weight for a 5th wheel at from 20% to 25% of the GVWR of the trailer. For your trailer, that puts it between 3,300 and 4,125 lbs.

This will come out of your truck's payload capacity, along with the weight of your 5th wheel hitch (usually around 160 lbs). Given your truck's payload capacity (as configured from the factory) is only 2,733 lbs, it sure looks like you are overloading the truck. The payload for your truck needs to allow not only for the trailer's pin weight and the trailer hitch, but also other cargo, people, etc. in the truck, along with anything added to the truck since it came from the factory.

However, I haven't looked at your scale paper, so I'll let others comment on that.

Well a 21,440# GVW tells me that this is weighed empty, OR you didn’t get all three axles on the scale plate. You didn’t show a TV only weight slip, so your pin weight is a guess at about 3,000#, making the 5er at about 13,260, well below the 16,500# GVWR.
At 11,180 you are darn close to the 11,500# GVWR of your TV.

First statement, photos can be deceiving. But me just looking at the photo my thought was that's a heavy load on the truck, maybe too heavy. If I had scales in the patrol car or was near a scale house and had time. I would want to check your weights.
It could be ok. After getting all the data you will know.

Ken I would agree in the picture the TV looks a little squaty, and the nose of the 5er looks to be down a bit.
The scale sheet shows the TV within axle and GVWR (barley).

If you really want to know what you've got then load the trailer and the truck to go camping THEN go to the Cat Scales. Weight the truck and trailer first. Unhook and park the trailer then weight just the truck. Then come back with the numbers. Anything else will just be guessing.

I used to have that model Raptor, at 10,260 on the trailer axles you must not have had any fuel or water in there. If my memory serves I would be around 13.5-14k on the rear axles loaded. That was a pretty heavy trailer

The truck had a 1/4 tank of fuel and trail was dry as can be, I’m struggling to figure how my one ton truck is so close to over weight. Hell the propane tanks are empty. I do have airbags to install ( yes I know they do not change my tow capacity) but that should fix my two inches of sag from 10” empty to 8” loaded.

I do understand these toy hauler trailers are way tongue heavy with zero load in the garage, it rained here so TV is in garage until further notice,

Weighing everything with an empty trailer seems less than ideal. You need to see where you are with both the truck and trailer configured for camping. If you can't load the trailer up like it is expected to be, a good estimate is to use the trailers GVWR and then work your weight calculations based on that.

A 1-ton truck definitely is not capable of towing any possible trailer. It has it's limits. Even my truck (which is a dually) has it's limits.

Some trucks have a "light gas engine and few options" which gives them a "lot of payload".

Some trucks have a "heavy diesel engine and lots of options" which gives them a "smaller payload"...

There are way too many gas/diesel/optional equipment configurations between those two extremes to even try to address, but the bottom line is, at least for me, the "camper decal" in your truck that gives your payload at 2773 pounds. To me, that seems light, given the 11500 GVWR of the truck. Math tells you that the truck weight (calculated by GM) is 11500-2773=8727 pounds. That seems a bit heavy for a "mid range optioned truck", so I'd guess there's not many "omitted bells and whistles" on your truck.... All those options do take a toll on "pin weight capacity"...

Now, with a 2773 maximum payload, and a trailer with an empty shipping pin weight of 2840 (7 pounds more than the truck's payload capacity), it can only go downhill from there..... https://www.rvguide.com/specs/keysto...or/3712ts.html

The maximum payload of this GMC is far from 2773 pounds. Reference “ http://www.gmcia.com/guide-2180.html”
This will explain why his cargo capacity is well into the 3000’s. The reference above is good information for us all.

Russ are you saying he would be ok as long as he is hauling Barley in the fifth wheel??? Is that some sort of a farming exemption???

I’m thinking there may be another sticker on your truck that gives the fifth wheel payload limit. The first sticker you posted with a payload weight is for a slide-in camper only. Is there another sticker showing a capacity for bumper pull trailers, fifth wheel trailer, etc?

ETA - look on the drivers side door pillar somewhere after you open the door for another sticker. Post that one then.

No what I was saying was that the weight slip shows a TV within axle and GVWR. The kicker is that it appears that the trailer is empty based on axle and assumed pin weight. Unless OP has a large toy loaded in the garage he is only a couple hundred pounds under his GVWR.
The OP really needs a DRW.
