Guadalupe

We are thinking of going to Guadalupe Mountains NP in April. Who's been there? What were your impressions?

Been there many times. What do you want from the trip? It's a LONG way from nowhere and not much there but the Guadalupes (which we love) and some great scenery. I've not taken an RV there but I've been in the park numerous times. Anything particular you want to know?

We plan to take the travel trailer from our home in NW Louisiana across the state of Texas. We like to hike and see new scenery, especially desert and mountains since our home is piney and flat for the most part. We may run up to Carlsbad for a day or so too, though we've been there before. We'll boondock on the way out there along the way.

If boondocking, hiking, desert/mountains are your cup of tea as they are mine you should enjoy it there. Come up out of the valley where the park is and go up into the Guadalupe mountains and there are many, many miles of roads (gravel), off road trails and hiking trails.

The park itself is kind of situated at the end of a road and sort of "nestled" at the bottom of the mountain ridges. You can go back up toward the top, take the rim road and then look back down into the canyon (Big Dog) where the park is located - it is quite beautiful. Lots of stuff.

As a side note there is an RV park at Queen they have reopened. It used to be pretty rough but they've spruced it up, opened the cafe and the mgr. said they were going to get some gas pumps in (53 miles back to town) and start stocking some groceries. It's at the highest point on the paved road coming in then it drops back down into the canyon where the park is and the black top ends. PM me for more specifics.
