Let me also add from experience and the experience of others both CDL and non - the DPS on the side of the road is "the law" even if he/she has almost no idea of the real rules. It's a fair bet that asking 5 DPS officers a technical CLD or DOT question you'd get at least 4 different answers. Thats also how trailers get left on the side of the road while someone hunts up a CDL person to move it.

Which is exactly why my truck is registered as 14K, trailer at 15K... and my license is Class A..

This stuff ain't rocket science... in fact the license was very simple to get.. written test and driving test.. a snap.. never worry again, I'm legal

How much over msrp? Your prices are closer to the msrp in 2004

My truck sticker for a 2020 Ram Laramie was $85950…and that was the factory sticker price…no markup…I didn’t pay that but that’s what was on the window.

I didnt set out to spend that much but my 2500 Laramie was not up for the task

Besides being a author, and mechanic? Own a vehicle custom shop, your also a licensed USCG captain …(never answered when I asked you what tonnage or certification).

I guess we are not used to being around someone with your expertise and accomplishments.

FWIW, we paid close to 53K for our 2020 7.3L gas DRW. We hammered the Ford spec sheet with the dealer fleet manager to get what we needed/wanted with the packages that made it come together for the least cost. Delivered, it was cheaper than some of the F-150s on the lot.

I guess my 40 hour basic DOT training, working at scale stations, having to do another 80 hours of DOT training, stopping trucks and filling out DOT vehicle inspections. I don't know everything about comm. vehicles but I do know about "Not For Hire" and the DOT and Oregon rules about those. That part is easy.
Not For Hire does not mean an officer cannot stop them. With TVs and racer trailers some get an extra look just by combination length.

I'm pretty sure that states charge registration fees up to a vehicles GVWR. When the vehicle is used as a tow vehicle they will base registration fees on the TVs GCWR which is a combined weight for both vehicles not to exceed the TVs GCWR. The most common way to increase a GCWR is by changing gearing (3.73 to 4.10). That in no way increases either vehicle's GVWR.

I don't think I said modifications can't be done. I stress the fact that those stating the modifications are proper MUST be licensed and certified to do so.
