Screaming hot price or not?

A dealer near me has this truck listed at $37K with 3 others w/o the 5.0 UConnect for $36.5K
Brand new 2017 Ram 2500 Tradesman quad cab 4x4 6.4 V8 gas 3.73.
I think I should buy it.....
The local Ford dealer has nothing even close..$43K for a XL 6.2 gas.
What say you?

Another member just purchased a "similar/but not quite the same" RAM tradesman for about $35K. You can read his discussion here in post #22: http://www.keystonerv.org/forums/sho...t=27147&page=3

Ultimately, Fords have been about $4-6K more expensive than RAM for the past 6 or 8 years. Back in the "golden history" of this forum is a post by a member in which he said, "The Dodge dealer told me that when you buy a Cummins diesel, they give you a Dodge truck to take it home in." That's not intended (by me anyway) to be a slam against RAM or a compliment to any other brand, just an observation on why there may be such a significant difference in MSRP. Then again, RAM is assembled in Mexico, Ford in Tennessee (NO, IN KENTUCKY). So ?????

What do you WANT to drive? Most people on here are brand loyal, some not so much. My wife and I are not only Ford loyal, but foreign brands have never crossed our property line. Do you actually want this truck or are you going to buy it because you think it is a good deal. Are you going to use all the "play pretty options" included in this price? Lots of trucks out there. Fords are a little higher than GM, and both are probably more than a little higher than Dodge. The truck sounds like a good deal, but only if you want a Dodge and if it will tote the load you need.

Actually, the Ford Heavy Duty is built at the KY truck plant.....he hey, that's still pretty close to home for me.

Agree! The 2 - 2011 F250 Super Duty 6.2 gasser and 6.7 diesel we had were both built in the Kentuky plant for Canadian consumers.

You're both absolutely correct. There's a "built with pride in KY" window sticker on my SuperDuty. I don't know why I thought KY, other than intracranial flatulence ....

There is something to be said about made in America.....
But for an advertised price difference of $7K-8K.....I would have to really ponder that one.

Ram 2500 $36K......Ford F-250 $43K

You can get a diesel for $4500 more, you'll always have way more than that value in equity on resale. The whole diesel cost more to maintain, vs gas IMO isn't that big of a deal. We have a ram with the 6.7 and one with the 6.4 and oil changes are about a wash. You have to run synthetic in the 6.4 and oil changes end up actually costing more vs dino in the 6.7. I never get near the 15000 miles in 6 months, it's more like 3-4000 miles so the synthetic advantages are less, the reason behind the dino oil. There is a few things that cost a few $ more like fuel filters, but they can be found on amazon for $85 for the two separator and fuel filter and take about 45 mins to change once a year for someone like myself who doesn't do a ton of miles. Both trucks are great and have their uses. The 4th gen rams are a big improvement over previous Dodge trucks and it shows with what GM, and Ford have done to improve theirs. In the diesel world Ram is actually the one a little behind now, with all the new gadgets and HP and Torque found in the 2017 Ford and GM. Great trucks rolling out of all three manufactures, a smart shopper like yourself can definitely see the value in the Tradesman VS what else is out there.

Truck brand, which is best

I will say I like my RAM 2500 HD, with 6.4 gas engine, which I paid more for than the prices shown here, but I have a Big Horn model with many options, including the 8.0 Uconnect. While I had a RAM 1500 previously, I was fairly open to either a Ford, GM, or RAM, and looked at all 3 brands before buying.

At this point in time, I feel the price paid for my RAM was the best price for a 2500 truck. Someone mentioned the Cummins diesel was $4500 more, and if that was difference, I would be driving a diesel. Dealers negotiated on the gas models, not so much on the diesel models, and what I experienced was about $12K more for a similar diesel model.

The Ford trucks, just started in price about $5-6K higher, and smaller trade-in.

If you don't mind a Ram, now is the time to buy. I believe Dodge is underpricing the completion right now to test the loyalty waters after all of the recall problems they had last year or so. If the sales stay strong, I doubt they'll continue to be $5k less than the others. Either that or Ford and GM are sitting on their prices to see if the Ram sales will recover from the recalls. Either way, my guess is the price difference gap will close a bit within the year, either Ram going up or the other two dropping. Personally, I'm not convinced that they have fixed their front end problems, they've been dealing with them for TOOO many years for me to trust them, but I'm still bitter and biased after they didn't cover the problems I had on my 1999 Dodge with 56k miles back in 2002.

A quick Google is plastered with "death wobble" on some Ram trucks.
The latest year seems to peak out at 2014 with that problem.

I gave them a 2nd chance in 2010 ~~ was happy to get back into a Ford in 17 months. I know many that are very happy with their Ram... I still think they have the best ride but that is not ashigh on my list.

My Ram was built in St. Louis. No front end problems. 320,000 miles. The Cummins doesn't burn any oil.

Probably won't go wrong with any of the big three when addressing your personal preferences.

2014 front ends on the rams are completely different from previous generations. There are a few ball joint story's out there on the new front ends but not many. The recall issue was bad welds from a ram frame contractor that was using humans to make the welds and they have since gone robotic so that issue is gone and the recall fix was a solid fix. They also have updated the SCR's that were failing at large numbers than normal and that is the cause of the latest recall on 2013's and some 2014's. I just realized that I linked the window sticker, not the dealer link to the tradesman Cummins. Well here she is, IMO that is a good deal and even better if you qualify for some of the conditional rebates.

Kinda changes things if you don't.....
There's two prices you maybe didn't see, the unconditional price which is still $11500 off sticker on a tradesman and then the as low as price, hence the reason I said, "IMO that is a good deal and even better if you qualify for some of the conditional rebates". You have to read the whole post, and understand the whole deal. Trust me anybody can get the unconditional price!

You could always jump up to a 3500 so the payload police won't come after you, if you ever go 5er. The only problem is with the 6.4 Hemi and not having the 4.10 rear your max tow will be 12650. Finding a 4.10 rear on the lot is a harder thing to do. Below is a 3500 6.4, but 3.73

I would keep looking for a 4.10 gear truck. I traded a 2500 6.4 4.10 for my 3500 cummins only because the trailer got bigger and needed more pull power. They are good trucks, i paid around that price for mine.
