Anyone Bicycle while camping?

Howdy All;

How many enjoy riding a bicycle? How many of you hate flat tires?
What solutions or ways to combat the dreaded flat have y'all found?

We take our bikes on every camping outing. I made a bike rack utilizing a Yakima rack that I salvaged off of our previous pop up. The rack fits nicely in the back of the truck. The last thing I do prior to heading out every trip is check the air pressure in the camper, my truck and the two bicycles. Have never had a flat while at a campsite with either bike. I guess it would be loaded back into the truck if in fact that were to happen. Having said that a new tube is inexpensive and easy to change if you have a source for air and a store in which to purchase a replacement.

I mountain bike on trails at state parks.

Right when I purchased my mountain bike I got a flat (cactus thorn). I replaced it with a thorn resistant tube and haven't had problem since. The rubber does degrade over time, just like vehicles/trailers. I would new tires and tubes on after 6 years. The thorn resistant tubes are about $15.

We bike all the time, not just on camping trips. In NM we have to worry about goat head thorns which will flatten a tire in a heartbeat. We have tuffy liners in each tire, use puncture resistant tubes, and armadillo tires. The combination of all three is the only thing I have found that prevents flats. It also helps prevent pinch flats. But just in case, get a flat repair kit that straps on the bike under the seat that is large enough to carry tools, extra tubes, and CO2 inflation cartridges.

Get yourself an under the seat bag for a few common tools and a tube. Throw the tube into a sock so while it's in there bouncing around you don't get a hole rubbed through it. There's small lightweight pumps that you can purchase that mount to the bike.

Ditto on all the answers. I ride all the time camping and not. Tires that are flat resistant are available too. They will be a little heavier but worth it. Most people don't notice the difference. Watch the pressures and avoid debris in the road if possible. Have fun and as Ned Overend told me once "Enjoy the ride!"

We always take the bikes with us. Sometimes you just need to get away from the others

Yes sir, our bikes go with us! Taking the front tires off they store quite nicely in the front compartment that is just under the kingpin box. We full time and I just did not care for them on the back of the 5vr. As far as flats...we have not had a flat since putting "Green Slime" in all the tires. It is quite inexpensive at your local Walmart, or any other store of your choosing!

Depending on where we are going, I like to bring a bike. So far it's been the Sun cruiser bike. I just can't bring myself to put the Specialized Crosstrail on the rack behind the 5th. I've looked at bike bags. Anyone use one?

Haven't found a bike bag yet that is worth buying. We put our Specialized bikes on a tray rack in front of the truck (front receiver hitch). Get a couple bugs, but they clean up easy. I also carry my spin doctor maintenance stand with me and just do a thorough cleaning/lube if we ever get into some bad weather while driving. It's actually kind of relaxing to set up under the awning and do a good checkup.

Our bikes go everywhere our trailer goes. Have to store bikes in the truck bed but made a rack so it's no big deal. Angus likes to ride also!!

I will not go without my Cannondale. Wife received a new girlie bike last year but has developed balance problems so youngest Granddaughter will get a new(er) bike this summer.

Worried about flats, look into tubeless tires.

Howdy All;

Thought I'd let ya know what I found to keep me rollin' ;
http://www.schwalbetires.com/bike_ti...thon_plus_tour
Matched with some of their tubes and some Stan's No-tubes goop for
"just-in-case".
So-far-so-good (touch wood), the Goatheads should be erupting shortly.

Our bikes always go. We throw them in the bed of the truck. Never had a flat (crossing my fingers). We do carry a small compressor in case of an emergency. It use to be my fathers compressor (RIP) he gave it us for camping. Every time we use it my husband says "Thanks Al"
