We pull our Cougar up that highway several times a year. There are several very popular camping areas along that highway.
I can't tell for sure. Did the Anderson hitch hold up under all the stress of the crash? Looks like it's still connected.

I suppose if it is on Facebook it has to be true. Sorry, but I don't 'Facebook' nor am I interested in the drivel thrown around on the site. Might as well pull up Yahoo and look for a MAGA commercial.

Reading the commentary on the situation along with the news article it appears that the driver was driving a 150 pulling the 5vr with a RZR on trailer in tandem. If that is indeed the case, it is in fact a situation for the "weight police" - literally, and hopefully those weight police impress upon this individual the fact that he can't/doesn't want to tow again.
As far as the Andersen it does appear to have held its own. Pretty remarkable IMO given the disadvantage the operator apparently put all the components of the rig in.

Verified! this is the real deal. We had a local holiday (24th of July is Pioneer Day) last weekend. That road/area would be an absolute ZOO! Definitely to be avoided at all cost.
1/2 ton truck with a 10k 5er pulling a RZR plus all the weekend traffic on a 2 lane mountain road is a recipe for trouble.

Is it a half ton? Not that I doubt it it but looks the “150” reference is the road number.

I agree with GMC. You can easily get a truck without tow mirrors in all sizes. Just saying it may not be a half ton.

Yes, looks like the Andersen held, but it is also the steel version. Too hard to tell from pictures if the TV is a 1500 or 2500 GMC.

I looks like possibly the trailers didn't have enough braking and the TV may have braked hard, the two trailers kept pushing and got the TV sideways, and across the road they went into the ditch. The people in the TV are lucky there wasn't any oncoming traffic, it would have been a nasty head-on.

There's just not enough info to know for sure what happened. Inadequate trailer braking? Inadequate TV? User error?
There are so many new, rookie, inexperienced RVers these days, as well as the occasional 'ignore-conventional-wisdom-it-works-fine-for-me' cowboy, who knows who we're all sharing the road with. Equipment can certainly fail but there are too many who push/exceed the limits of safe towing.
Be smart, stay safe

Would agree with all this and just add that towing overloaded, improperly loaded and overweight will only exacerbate the cause of the accident and contribute to the severity.

Interesting...
As far as debate - no one can confirm. That body style looks identical from those angles for 1500 or 2500. Need to see wheel or badge to know for sure.
I expect speed was a factor, too. At any rate, hope no injury and crappy way to end a trip!

I was verifying that the report is real, not a facebook story. Yes, the incident was on highway 150 (Mirror Lake Highway)
As for the size of the truck I can't say for sure. The fact that the driver had to lock things up but the Anderson held everything together is a testimony to Anderson's engineering claims. Very impressive!

I agree that nowhere near enough information, it is just that the 5er and RZR trailer are in a nice straight line, and the TV is 90 degrees to them.
I find it interesting that the hitch didn't fail, but it ripped the whole front of the 5er frame apart.

The only 2500's I've seen with the small mirrors are fleet trucks.

We have an F350 at work that we bought of the side of the road with small mirrors. Sad thing is we pull a trailer with it. Lol. Granted it stays in our fence line.
