sad i got on a rant. last week a fellow brought car in for a pre buy inspection. i don't swear on the forum but this car was an out house on wheels!! advised him not to buy it. well he did. engine blew and i am getting my butt handed to me. so when i am asked and i give say thanks and do what you will but don't throw it in my face when you made the wrong choice. ok i'll get down off my now back to the watering hole and if you read his reply" sorry to disapoint you all" well he didn't disappoint me it's his truck and trailer but a forget it just ain't worth it i'm safe.

Man, I always thought that when in that weight range of 5th Wheel, a dually was a given. No matter what amount of springs / airbags you put on it, you are still limited by the load rating on your tires. I always thought that the max load per E range tire was about 3k lbs at 80psi.
Anyway, OP, if you are still around after getting berrated: I was wondering what influenced your decision to go with a SRW truck? I'm out of the game on new truck pricing. Was a DRW alot more nowdays?

OhhWell nope.. see below.
This is the new Fuzion 375 Monster towed with an 2008 SRW F-350 longbed.
and a friend of mine. He towed behind me the whole trip down and back to the beach.
I love camping,
randy
P.S. love you guy's comments, we are so caring with each other. I like the RV.net comment the best.
As a famous guy once said "why cant we all just get along!"
NOW we can lock this topic..

When pricing new trucks for my sons business in late 2011, a DRW from either Dodge or GMC was only 1000.00 more than the SRW. I was suprised that it was not more.

Not a single responder said go SRW, ALL stated DRW, the number 1 reason was Safety, second was Payload, SWR will be overloaded with that pin weight.
Have you ever driven the Alcan highway? Everything I have ever seen about it is that it is one tough road.
Good luck with your decision, but you will soon be regretting not going DRW.

Agree!!!! I will tell ya first hand I have been there done that. I had a F350 cclb srw and bought a Raptor 4014. I pulled it on trips twice and the truck pulled it "okay". I was never comfortable or relaxed when doing so. Any large bumps or any wind and the whole rig would go where the 5th wheel wanted. I could tell that the truck was definitely not in control. It's hard to explain but when u feel it u will know and it's not a good feeling when u have to make quick decisions, stop, turn, swerve, change lanes, ect. I travel with a full rig, wife and two kids, safety is at the top of my list.
Long story getting longer,,, anyway, I sold the F350 and picked up a F550 cclb DRW and all I can saw is Wow! The difference between the two truck towing is incredible. The brakes and stability of the DRW is second to none. However u choose, travel safe and know your tow veh limits!!!
Before
After!!

Set-up complete
2012 Chevy 3500HD SRW w/ Ride-Rite airbags, Curt Q5 20k and the 2011 Raptor 361LEV. Only time will tell if I made the correct choices with this set-up.

This thread is just short of five years old since the OP's last post. I wonder how he's doing?

Great question but his last sign on on the forum was June 23, 2015. Hopefully all is well otherwise.
